Edge is sharing Chrome site logins. How do I prevent this?

I mean lets say you are a Doctor and suddenly your browser on the clinic screen has bookmarks to adult content?

I see the danger, but I'd point out that this is a classic use-case for separate browser profiles. It's really easy to keep Dr Jekyll's stuff quite separate from Mr Hyde's by giving each of them his own browser profile. Each profile has its own data store, with history, cookies, favourites, passwords and so on completely divorced from every other profile's. This is how I switch with one click between different email accounts at the same webmail site, for example.

I personally think somebody somewhere dropped the ball here and made a mistake.

I tend to agree with you, if this is in fact happening by stealth as I understand.

It's possible, but this isn't the best way to make your views known. The official route for 'this is something I don't like' feedback is through the Microsoft Feedback Portal: Microsoft Edge · Community, although it's struggling to get off the ground. You have the ability to share your feedback item so other users can see it, upvote it and comment on it. However, it won't take off unless people actually use it.

Another good channel is Reddit. Edge community engagement staff monitor the two Edge subreddits and are usually pretty responsive: Microsoft Edge (reddit.com).

Otherwise, use the Send feedback option within the browser (Alt-Shift-i) to alert the Edge team to your feelings. This is all read and may be acted upon if enough users make the same complaint.

Thank you for your reply. I have done this. Nevertheless I did not authorize this change and received no prompt. Its is a serious security issue. As I do not want data from one browser with personal facebook twitter... being imported without my consent to a business browser. It is not only unprofessional it now means I have to do housework. Before you responded I simply reset edge )and it seems to have fixed the start page issue) but I still have the bookmarks bar there and so on I do not want on edge. I do not think the Edge team have really thought about how serious this is (or could be legally!).

Microsoft when it installs windows and major updates takes you through the I dont want this that and the or the other yet completely ignores it when it updated edge last time. I personally think somebody somewhere dropped the ball here and made a mistake. As this is clearly a code mistake where it should not have done this. Now people gotta patch up the mess.

I hope the edge team read this or are passed these messages. I used to be a windows insider on 10. And this is exactly the thing that would be reported in Beta. But this is not Beta! In future do not do the syncing with other browsers by default or without consent. I know edge wants more browser maket share and hates it when people immediately install Chrome but this is in part why they do this! It is underhanded and dangerous to try and rob other browsers of their data even if it is on the same system! And as such put people off the edge browser rather than trust it.

There is a new option: Import data from Chrome on every launch. Some users with Chrome installed have found that this is enabled by default, which may be the cause of the behaviour you're seeing. Open ⋯ (Settings and more) > Settings > Profiles > Import browser data to find the option and configure it to your liking.

[I don't have any other browsers installed, so I don't see this option and can't tell you precisely where to find it - sorry!]

I have AOL mail (I know I know) because I have used it for so many years it just suits me.

I usually have two accounts at startup If I start edge it logs into business version of AOL mail automatically and on google chrome if I click the book mark (I have google as my homepage on that) it logs straight into the personal version. As I choose stay logged in on the AOL UI.

Yesterday I opened edge and it logged me into personal AOL? Uh? I logged out logged back in and saw to my business stuff. then went over to chrome and logged in and it was on the business account!!! Somehow Edge has pirated the data (or synced) from chrome? This means I now have to manually log into edge AOL and Chrome Aol every time. Now this for a start is time consuming. As to log out then log in the only reason I used edge at all was for this convenience. If I have to manually log into both each time I would just use Chrome and never use edge.

My solution is (until it is fixed) to use Opera for Business AOL (which works and does not do this) so it is clearly an edge problem) which is so counter productive. I though Microsoft wanted people to use edge? This is the exact opposite! I am on Windows 11 and all updated btw. And Microsoft has forced me to use a thirdparty browser?!!!
