Edge is sharing Chrome site logins. How do I prevent this?

Hello,

I have a site where I have two accounts. I used to be able to have one of them logged in with Edge and one with Chrome, then by running the right browser, I could be logged in with the right profile.

Now, Edge seems to have started copying the login across from Chrome, i.e. I can't separate them. Logging in on Chrome logs in with the same credentials on Edge which isn't what I want.

How do I turn this off so that each browser can log in with different credentials and stay logged in with those credentials? I've found lots of stuff about syncing my MS account across devices, but this is on one single device and two browsers that I want to be completely unrelated.

    I was seeing exactly this. the two browsers were effectively behaving as one. I’d log in on Chrome, run Edge and I’d be logged in there. I’d log in with a different account on Edge, and Chrome would mirror that change. Something was being shared, not just as a one-time transfer, but continually. I might as well have had only one browser.

    I reinstalled Chrome, and that fixed it for a while, but then it started to happen again and I couldn’t pinpoint what I did, so I decided that the easiest solution was not to use Chrome and Edge, but instead to try a browser that wasn’t based on the Chromium engine. I now use Chrome and Firefox, and I’ve had no issues.

    I’m sorry to Microsoft that was the solution I used, but it worked.

    (I switched from Edge rather than Chrome because I didn’t like the sleazy BNPL integration.)

    This issue was bothering me allot as well. Here's what I did to fix the issue in Edge Browser:

    Edge Browser:

    1. Goto Settings -> Profiles

    edge://settings/profiles

    Click Import browser data -> Choose what to import

    Unchecked all the options and checked only personal info

    1. Stay on profiles: edge://settings/profiles

    Click Import browser data on each launch -> Click Turn Off

    1. Clear cookies and browsing history

    Goto Settings -> Privacy -> Clear Browsing Data

    edge://settings/privacy

    Click choose what to clear -> Select All Time -> Select All Options -> Click Clear Now

    1. Restart your Edge Browser

    I have the same issue and also was forced to move away from edge. There are many websites that I have a business account and a personal account. (this is a core not an edge case)

    Previously I could be logged into both using different browsers. Now edge forces me to share the login context I am now unable to use it any more and had to move to a different browser and away from using edge as my second browser. Sorry Microsoft but this is a huge mistake by the PM responsible.

    Throughout Tech history these approaches to force adoption always backfire and cause resentment. There are always alternatives.

    Hi Frank,

    It's more than passwords being shared, the actual sessions are being shared. So if I log in in Chrome, I'm then already logged in in Edge.

    Same here. I like Edge a lot, but it’s useless to me if it shares the same session. I’ve switched over to Firefox.
