Installing or updating Microsoft Edge on Windows 10
This browser is no longer supported.
Upgrade to Microsoft Edge to take advantage of the latest features, security updates, and technical support.
Edge Chromium will not save passwords I have imported from Firefox after the 2004 update and that goes for Chrome as well. They are removed after a restart, or wake from sleep and now I have discovered that after I import passwords from Firefox and I verify they are there then close Edge wait several minutes then open it they are removed again. This is ridiculous to have to deal with and it did not happen until I installed the buggy 2004 update. Thank god my Firefox was not screwed up with this update.
Update: The only resolution I have found to solve this problem was to make a new admin user profile for myself on my desktop computer and I made a new admin user profile for my wife on her laptop. Once I did this the problem with Edge not showing passwords that I had imported from my Firefox browser was solved. I now do not need to sign in to my MS account in Edge to see or use my saved passwords. I have since uninstalled Google Chrome from my browser as I see no need to clutter my computer with two chromium browsers. I use Firefox as my default browser and Edge as my backup browser.

Hi ¡Firedog,
Found the root cause of the problem with my profile. I started Outlook tonight and it prompted for a password for my main email which I entered. Then it appeared to hang, possibly checking my next email id. At the same time Opera was updating. When Opera restarted sync had lost it's credentials. I had Opera Beta opened too so I closed that and restarted and it too had lost it's sync settings. Google Chrome was and is still fine. So I closed Outlook and deleted that profile since I had another one I could use. Started Outlook and entered passwords for the accounts who's passwords had changed since I last used that profile and it worked fine. So I signed in to sync in Opera ... closed it ... started it and sync was still okay. Closed and Opened Outlook and it logged in fine. Then there were updates for Update Tuesday so I applied them and rebooted. Opera was still signed in to sync and working fine. I started Outlook and closed and reopened Opera and sync was still fine.
Conclusion. It was a corrupted Outlook profile that only showed it's corruption on 2004. On 1909 that Outlook profile did occasionally hang, so really I should have ditched that profile months ago.
Hi ¡Firedog,
Further Update.
Well I have given up on that profile and created a new one. The old profile was working great till I started Outlook with what was likely a duff profile. So now my old profile is toast. I wish I'd not started Outlook which I only need once in a blue moon on that PC.
Anyway new profile all setup and configured. I have signed in to Opera, Opera Beta, Chrome and Chrome Canary and OneDrive signed in automatically.
I'll give it 24 hours then close the Opera's down and restart them and see if they are still signed in.
Please can I add my frustration - since the so-called upgrade 2004 saved passwords for Outlook and Edge are no longer available or working.
I have spent hours going through various 'workarounds' and other recommended solutions.
I have downloaded MS Support & Recovery Assistant. Did that solve the problem? Nope.
Why does Microsoft do this to us??
Why do they issue such an important update and then leave the users to sort out the problems of their making. As we all know this is not the first time MS have done something like this.
Before upgrade 2004 all my systems were working.
Please can somebody in MS read this and sort it out?

I'll say again: problems with retaining sensitive data written to disk are often caused by third-party security software, which has to be adapted to every change in the operating system. Providers of this sort of software are not always quick to adapt their offerings in response to major platform updates. Since only some users are affected by the problem you're facing, its cause must lie with the hardware or (most probably) software configuration of the affected machines.
I would start by disabling any third-party security program to see if there's any improvement, followed by complete uninstallation of the software if things don't get better.
Both of the other posters in this thread complained of the same problem with retaining credentials within the browser, both are using third-party security software, and both suffered a corruption of their user profiles on upgrading to Windows 10 v.2004. Are you perhaps in the same boat?
I know this may sound a little extreme but I think if you make yourself a new profile on your computer you will see your problems solved. I was having the same problems as you with passwords not being retained. I found out quite by accident when I typed a subject into the Settings Search Bar and it kept saying nothing found after sitting searching for it that that I had a corrupted user profile. I made a new profile and the search worked in the Settings App. So I took a little time and made myself a new user profile with admin privileges, moved my old profile data to my new one and I still used my same MS Account. Now when you do this it will be like starting over but setting up your new account will be quite easy if you have things synced and your Store Apps will still be there in the store and you can just reinstall them. Several days later I found out that my saved password were still visible in Edge after I had signed out and restarted my computer which usually they would disappear. It seems as though some profiles became corrupted from one of the updates. There has been numerous reports filed about the saved passwords problem. Personally I use Firefox as my default and since that is not a chromium based browser my saved passwords were not affected but still I had a corrupt profile and had to create a new one. There will be people here that will have you chasing ghosts to fix it when it can be fixed with just a little time and patience. Now to say your profile is corrupt I can't but I would at least create a new profile without removing the profile you have and just see if your problems are corrected and if they are then the choice is yours to keep the new profile that works and redo your desktop and settings to your liking or keep your old profile. I am just telling you what I did and how I solved mine.
Cheers and Good Luck
BTW The 2004 update was full of problems to begin with and that has been documented in numerous forums about it. That update or some of the updates that was deployed to fix all the numerous problems 2004 had must have corrupted some user profiles. There were users who used Windows Defender had the same problem of password not being saved. Blaming third party antivirus software is nothing but a deflection from the real problem/problems which was Microsoft by deploying a faulty problem ridden 2004 update which many forums called a disaster before it was ready. If it were third party antivirus software then what didn't this problem show up before the 2004 update and why is it no longer showing up after creating a new profile. Why did the problem show up in chromium based browsers only and not Firefox, IceDragon and TOR browsers. There is no way will I ever let Windows Defender alone protect my computer from viruses and malware as that in itself has problems of not catching everything but that is my opinion. I will keep what I am using and have been using for many years (Norton 360) with no problems to protect my computer and free Malwarebytes scanner if I need it which I never have. There are many websites that compare antivirus and anti-malware programs so a user can select what they feel is right for them. Like to old saying "you get what you pay for."
