Chromium & Chrome Will Not Save Passwords After 2004 Update

I am just wondering if anyone has heard if this issue has been resolve. I watch various videos on YouTube concerning the "2004" update where they discuss issues that have been resolved but none of them address this specific issue.  I am very hesitant to try updating again.  I did it twice and both times I had to revert to 1909 due to the memorized passwords issue.

The only way that I have found and I discovered this quite by accident was to make myself a new computer sign in account. I started to noticed over time that since updating to 2004 in June, and I restarted my HP Omen Obelisk computer or bring it out of sleep it would automatically go to the sign in screen and just bypass the lock screen at times. I also noticed one day in early August that I could not search on a topic in Settings as it would just sit there with the little dots going by and eventually it would say nothing was found. I did the whole SFC and DISM routine and rebuilding the Index etc etc.  I thought to myself that I must have a corrupt profile. What I did was create a whole new profile to check and sure enough I could use Settings search with no problem and just by chance I thought I would check Edge passwords and there they were and I was not even signed in to Edge and I restart my computer every week. I did not even use Edge and I uninstalled Chrome because of the password problem as I was not about to sign in to either one of my accounts so MS and Google could see my web activities. I always use Firefox as my default and I installed IceDragon 64 bit as my backup plus I also have TOR and Edge I keep in start up and sometimes I use it.  I went ahead and set up my new sign in account which was back in August with everything I was using in my  other account. I guess it took several hours to get my new account where I wanted it and when I did I deleted my old account and to this day Edge password are still there without signing in to MS and I can still use Settings search. Just this past week I made my wife a new sign in account on her HP Envy laptop as she had been experiencing the same thing with lock screen bypassing. Everything is running great now and her Edge passwords are now visible without having to sign in as well. I believe something happened to members profiles when 2004 was installed or with one of the update fixes to the 2004 bugs. I know it may sound extreme to make a new profile and such but it really was not bad doing so and it gave one a chance to put some thought into what one wanted in the new profile and such. There are lots of excellent websites that will guide you on how to do it. Your store apps that you have downloaded will be there waiting for you to redownload and of course you will need to redo your preferences in Settings. If you decide to go that route and you have deleted your old profile and you have all your store Apps in your new profile and happy with everything I strongly recommend that you re-register Microsoft Store   https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/8239-re-register-microsoft-store-app-windows-10-a.html . It seems to have a little problem with new profiles and BTW you do not have to create a new MS account. Good luck.

I'm facing this same issue and its been 9 days since I updated to 2004 version. It's a headache to log in again and again. I wonder when Microsoft will fix these issues.

I'm afraid there are zillions of us out here who are not, who just want to get on with their business and not spend hours fruitlessly trying to figure out why all of a sudden parts of their IT system stops working.

I fail to understand why I have to sort out this problem caused by a so called "update" in this case 2004.

I try all the recommended routes - none of which work - including yours to disable third party anti virus software (all the good books recommend good third party software and not to rely just on MS).

Surely Microsoft should make sure its upgrades work before releasing them and don't cause untold problems?

Surely Microsoft should have some system to help those of us who are not  IT wizards, just ordinary folk?

I know this may sound a little extreme  but I think if you make yourself a new profile on your computer you will see your problems solved. I was having the same problems as you with passwords not being retained. I found out quite by accident when I typed a subject into the Settings Search Bar and it kept saying nothing found after sitting searching for it that that I had a corrupted user profile. I made a new profile and the search worked in the Settings App. So I took a little time and made myself a new user profile with admin privileges, moved my old profile data to my new one and I still used my same MS Account. Now when you do this it will be like starting over but setting up your new account will be quite easy if you have things synced and your Store Apps will still be there in the store and you can just reinstall them. Several days later I found out that my saved password were still visible in Edge after I had signed out and restarted my computer which usually they would disappear. It seems as though some profiles became corrupted from one of the updates. There has been numerous reports filed about the saved passwords problem. Personally I use Firefox as my default and since that is not a chromium based browser my saved passwords were not affected but still I had a corrupt profile and had to create a new one. There will be people here that will have you chasing ghosts to fix it when it can be fixed with just a little time and patience. Now to say your profile is corrupt I can't but I would at least create a new profile without removing the profile you have and just see if your problems are corrected and if they are then the choice is yours to keep the new profile that works and redo your desktop and settings to your liking or keep your old profile. I am just telling you what I did and how I solved mine.

BTW The 2004 update was full of problems to begin with and that has been documented in numerous forums about it. That update or some of the updates that was deployed to fix all the numerous problems 2004 had must have corrupted some user profiles. There were users who used Windows Defender had the same problem of password not being saved. Blaming third party antivirus software is nothing but a deflection from the real problem/problems which was Microsoft by deploying a faulty problem ridden 2004 update which many forums called a disaster before it was ready. If it were third party antivirus software then what didn't this problem show up before the 2004 update and why is it no longer showing up after creating a new profile. Why did the problem show up in chromium based browsers only and not Firefox, IceDragon and TOR browsers. There is no way will I ever let Windows Defender alone protect my computer from viruses and malware as that in itself has problems of not catching everything but that is my opinion. I will keep what I am using and have been using for many years (Norton 360) with no problems to protect my computer and free Malwarebytes scanner if I need it which I never have. There are many websites that compare antivirus and anti-malware programs so a user can select what they feel is right for them. Like to old saying "you get what you pay for."
