360 videos in WMR not working

Hello,

I'm having issues with the new Microsoft edge playing 360/vr videos in WMR. First of all, to get an option to play vr video I have to go through that app "360 videos" in the cliff house. Finding a 360 video via youtube in edge directly doesn't work because the goggle icon on the bottom of the screen is missing. However, if I start any of the offered 360 videos via the cliff house 360 video app, that opens youtube video in the edge, and now the goggle icon is present. This allows me to play VR videos, but really this doesn't work either because the videos are very choppy. I did not have this issue prior to the new edge installation. I'm using Samsung Odyssey+. Any suggestions to solve this issue?

After looong trial and error,.....

Start with a reboot, Googles HDMI connected, USB disconnected (after completed boot),....plug in Goggles (USB), .......

Make sure Mixed Reality Portal NOT running and controllers are not connected to your computer (bluetooth)

On Desktop, run Microsoft Edge> go to youtube select a 360 video, you'll see the Goggle Icon , click it to enter VR,

now Mixed Reality Portal will start, ....put on your Goggles and enjoy the video.

After that you can select any other 360 video and it will work as long as all control stays with the desktop.

REPEAT:

All control has to stay with the desktop, otherwise it will not work.

Controllers have to stay disconnected, otherwise it will throw you back into the Cliff House

Hope this helps, and please,.....Microsoft,.....GET IT FIXED !!!

My setup:

Samsung Odyssey+

Win 10 v21H1 (Os Build 19043.1055), i7-9750H, Nvidia RTX 2060, 32GB

(All latest Drivers)

They support it, just not through their website anymore, except for a handfull of videos. In the Quest Youtube app it still works and for what I read on 3d tv's too. Even when downloading videos from youtube and watching them with a player like Skybox they're not steroscopic so there is not much use to that.

Thinking about buying a Quest 2 and giving in to the Facebook login nonsense just to be able to watch Youtube VR in a higher resolution than the Quest 1 :-/

This one for example - not steroscopic when watching through Edge on the G2 Reverb, but it is stereoscopic when watching with the Youtube app on the Quest 1. It's the same for practically all 120 vr videos in my favorites list. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0rDz0x1mCb4

Thanks Warrie I didn't know that Youtube did not support steroscopic. Good to Know.

Still doesn't explain why at time it works. You'd think that if Youtube did not support steroscopic, that it wouldn't work at all !!

Very strange... I just hope some cleaver people can figure it out. Love to know.

Hi Michael, I can't reproduce the trigger either. I run all the games which I run yesterday to the point where I noticed I got the 4 spinning balls again, but after doing so Canary still worked ok.

But - as Phu said and what I only discovered after Edge finally worked for me is that Youtube apparently doesn't play most VR videos in stereoscopic anymore. I also have a Quest 1 with the Youtube app on it, all the videos that are flat through the Youtube browser are steroscopic with the Quest Youtube app.

That kind of defeats the purpose of being able to run Youtube VR videos through edge anyway.. which really sucks.

Also surprised that I could hardly find any info about Youtube not being stereoscopic anymore when googling.. :-/

    Hi Warrie

I can at times (roughly 1 in 10 times) get the video to work on the normal Edge. Most times I get the 4 bouncing ball or the message "Page is not responding".

Problem is I can't determine the trigger/cause why it works in 1 scenario and not then other!
