New Microsoft Edge freezing intermittently forcing restart

The new Edge browser will occasionally freeze. When this happens there is no screen control and ending the Edge process using the task manager closes the browser window bur does not release all the resources forcing me to restart the PC. This can happen on a webpage or when watching videos. Is this a known problem and has anyone else experienced this and found a solution? I am running Windows 10 with the 2004 update installed, have no problems with other applications and no freezing when using Firefox or Chrome

    It happens the same with my computer, I can not look for the issue, the hole pc freezes , I am forced to restart using the power button

    This CPU is fresh out of the box and edge is terriable.  It will not load even google without freezing up.  I am connected Koreas' fastest internet on earth.    

    Ill use google chrome.

    We understand your concern as Microsoft Edge is freezing intermittently. In order to get clarity and to assist you accordingly, please reply with the answers to the questions below:

    • What is the Version of Edge installed?
    • Does it happen on all webpages?
    • Are you aware of any changes on the PC prior to this issue?

    In this scenario, we would suggest you to perform these methods and check if that helps.

    Method 1: Clear browsing history and cached data

    Your browser automatically saves temporary Internet files to help pages load faster. Clearing this cache will sometimes fix page display problems.

    Open Microsoft Edge, select History > Clear history. Select Browsing history and Cached data and files, and then select Clear.

    Method 2: Disable hardware acceleration

    1. Open Microsoft Edge and enter in the address bar: edge://settings/?search=hardware
    2. Scroll down to end of the page and select the System option.
    3. Disable the toggle for Use hardware acceleration when available.
    4. Close and reopen Microsoft Edge to check whether the page loading speed is improved.

    Method 3: Disable Extension

    Extensions or Plugins are additional external applications that help to enhance the functions of Microsoft Edge. There are many possibilities that one of the installed extensions may affect the speed of Microsoft Edge.

    The easy way to check this is to open the page in InPrivate mode, if the page loads faster, then the cause could be the extensions or browser cache. You can view the installed plugins using the URL in the address bar.

    Disable all extensions and check whether the slowness is caused by extensions. If the page loads faster, then enable the extensions one by one to narrow down the one causing issue.

    Open Microsoft Edge and enter in the address bar: edge://extensions/

    Method 4: Reset Edge

    1. Open Microsoft Edge
    2. Click on the three dots (…) from the right top corner.
    3. Select Settings from the drop down and click on Reset settingsfrom the left pane.
    4. Select Restore settings to their default values.
    5. Relaunch Edge and check

    **Disclaimer:**This will reset your startup page, new tab page, search engine, and pinned tabs. It will also disable all extensions and clear temporary data like cookies. You favorites, history and saved passwords will not be cleared.
