The new Edge browser will occasionally freeze. When this happens there is no screen control and ending the Edge process using the task manager closes the browser window bur does not release all the resources forcing me to restart the PC. This can happen on a webpage or when watching videos. Is this a known problem and has anyone else experienced this and found a solution? I am running Windows 10 with the 2004 update installed, have no problems with other applications and no freezing when using Firefox or Chrome

I had the same problem. I disabled the hardware acceleration, and the problem was fixed. Thanks.
I am running Window 11 in a new desktop.
Update: It has been 24 hours since I turned off the hardware accelerator. No freezing issue so far.

Everything was fine until the first windows 10 update just after the launch of Windows 11(which I cannot get on my machine). No other software had been installed or removed and no registry changes made bar whatever that update did. Like I said, I don't use edge but it was running 8 to 10 instances in task manager you couldn't end task and had to do a hard reboot to get rid of.
Microsoft User base is so large, both Corporate and consumer that they prioritize problems. If yours is not on their radar you may never see a fix. The problem can also be with a another application running in the background or and application that has corrupted your registry. Also the language pack could also be a potential cause. There is just so much that could be causing the problem. Have you tried backing up your machine data and reinstalling The OS and only necessary applications? Have you tried booting up in safe mode and\or reviewing log files and processes in task manager. Or shutting down processes that are not necessary. It's all very time consuming and can drive one nuts unless you enjoy it. Good luck with your issue.
