Hi,
Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.
We understand your concern as you would like to change the default app for PDF file from Edge to Adobe.
In this scenario, we would suggest you to perform these methods and check.
Method 1: Change the setting for Apps
Method 2: Stop opening PDF file if you are using New Edge Chromium.
Notes: If the Always open PDF files externally is on then if you try to open any online PDF document, it will prompt you to download and later you can use Adobe Reader to view.

Adobe Acrobat professional is not changing the default app.
It was in 2018 that Windows tightened up the file association protection measures that you seem to be running into. I can't find documentation for this, but versions newer than Acrobat Pro DC 18 shouldn't be doing this. It's likely that Acrobat Pro 2017 writes to registry keys that only users are allowed to change (by using the default apps settings available).
Could it be that you're using an older version of Acrobat?
The question is not in the use of Edge, I never use Edge. Its that Edge will not let you open up your PDF files from the file manager using Adobe Acrobat. Edge steals the extension and assigns the extension to itself whether you like it or not. Plus Edge cannot be removed from your computer, so you are stuck with it.
Hi
Yes you cant get rid of Edge however you can use a different browser like Bluesky browser and you can search wherever you like and Edge will not show.

I don't use Edge, Edge uses Me!
Whenever I try to open a PDF from the file manager with Adobe Acrobat, it opens with Microsoft Edge instead. Each time I have to go into settings and change the association for PDF files back from Edge to Adobe Acrobat. But then without my permission, Microsoft changes it back to Edge again. I have to go through this process sometimes 5 to 10 times a day, so I can use Acrobat. I have never intentionally used Edge, I use Chrome.
