Does the new Edge browser work with Kiosk mode?

I set up loaner devices to just use the browser.  I recently updated them to Windows10-2004 and installed the new Edge browser. I just get a blank blue screen when I try to sign in with kiosk mode after setting it up to open with Edge (the Icon that I am able to select still looks like the old one).  Does anyone know if I need to go back to the old OS or the old Edge?

    Thanks for the responses!

Kiosk mode is enabled for Microsoft Edge versions 87 and up. Kiosk mode is currently available on our Insiders Beta channel and is planned for release to our Stable channel (the default channel and the one you're using based on your version number) later this month. You can check for updates to the release schedule here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/DeployEdge/microsoft-edge-release-schedule

Also, check out this doc for some command line options and information on Assigned Access, which is currently only available in the Dev Channel: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/deployedge/microsoft-edge-configure-kiosk-mode#use-kiosk-mode-features

If you're still seeing that zooming issue after updating to version 87, let us know!

Please let me know if you have any additional questions!

    -Alex

Thanks for your quick response... Here are my replies

    1. Edge is version # 86.0.622.63
    2. I don't think the browser matters Edge or Legacy Edge or does it? This is brand new Windows install on a brand new computer so I don't know what to choose.
    3. I set up kiosk mode with a command line in autostart (see #6)
    4. I thought I had set up assigned access when I tried to use the kiosk "wizard" but gave up when all I got was a  blue screen.
    5. The OS is Windows 10 Pro 20H2 version
    6. The command on autostart is "C:\program files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge\Applicati http://nameofurl
    7. The log-in prompt issue was solved by uninstalling windows then reinstalling as personal computer, which allowed me to disable the log-in prompt setting.

Another issue I noticed is that my url playing via start up command will suddenly magnify on the screen display, so that only part of the page is visible. It did this when I checked edge://settings too.... suddenly the page was "zoomed in" huge.

Hi Sue_552, thanks for reaching out! The blue screen might indicate that you installed the new Microsoft Edge on the Stable channel and it replaced your legacy version of Microsoft Edge.

For the new Microsoft Edge kiosk mode configuration please refer to: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/deployedge/microsoft-edge-configure-kiosk-mode

Note: This applies to new Microsoft Edge versions 87 and up.  You can download Microsoft Edge Insider builds from the Microsoft Edge Insider Channels page.

I'd love to work with you to help set up your kiosk. If downloading and trying one of the Insider channels doesn't resolve this issue, could you provide the following information:

    1. Can you provide your version number (edge://settings/help)?
    2. What browser do you use or intend to use? New Microsoft Edge or Legacy Microsoft Edge?
    3. How did you set kiosk mode up?
    4. Are you using Assigned Access?
    5. What is your operating system?
    6. What command are you using when starting up via command line? (ensure this doesn't contain personal information)
    7. Where are you seeing the log-in prompt? Is your application using single-sign-on (SSO)?

Thanks again for reaching out and let us know if you have any other questions about kiosk mode! -Alex

Hello everyone. Thank you for trying kiosk mode with the new Microsoft Edge.

As my colleague, Fawkes mentioned we have just released the first set of features of kiosk mode with Windows 10.

This article goes in depths on how to set up kiosk mode on Windows 10 with (or without) assigned access: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/DeployEdge/microsoft-edge-configure-kiosk-mode

    Some direct answers:

    • JohnSQC - Canary only works with command-line options. If you want to try Assigned Access you need to use a Windows Insider build and Microsoft Edge Dev channel. Step to step instructions: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/deployedge/microsoft-edge-configure-kiosk-mode#configure-using-windows-settings
    • Canary does not install at the system-level by default and assigned access requires system-level installations.
    • Anthony1129 - thank you for your assistance here. Looking at the article, it was written some time ago - January 2020, containing aspects that are no longer recommended, so I would advise using the Microsoft documentation shared above for correct configuration. If there is anything we can do to improve the Microsoft documentation I am more than happy to get your feedback.
    • Few examples: the command line provided there (--kiosk) is for the upstream changes from the Chromium project and has limited functionality.
    • The new command-line options include (--edge-kiosk-type=fullscreen or --edge-kiosk-type=public-browsing) additional features that we have added (explained in the documentation)
    • Idontlikechangebutwilldomybest - please let me know if the information shared above doesn't help and I am more than happy to assist you in setting up kiosk mode.

    Thanks,

    Adrian
