Microsoft Edge keeps making itself the default PDF viewer instead of acrobat

This is a dup thread for one that was started in 2020. Same stuff is still happening. I'm about 5 minutes from uninstalling Edge. If my PC reboots, Edge takes over PDFs. So annoying

    Doesn't for me. The problem is that the "default apps" refuses to let a default to be set. It remains saying "Choose a default". Selecting "Acrobat": it remains "Choose a default". Select "Edge": settings window crashes/closes. No change.

    I noticed that Settings > Apps > Default Apps > Set defaults by app doesn't even have Acrobat as option. In reinstalled Acrobat Reader, set it to default. Wonder how long it will take before Edge takes over again.

    Is this still working for you six months later? Or did Edge take over again on the next update?

    Edge retook control of PDF last week for me. I just go in and manually reassign PDFs to Acrobat after every reboot. It has just become a cost of doing business.

    Unfortunately it lasted just for several hours for me. The problem is back. I've tried to other pdf reader as default and same thing happens again.
