Microsoft Edge keeps making itself the default PDF viewer instead of acrobat

This is a dup thread for one that was started in 2020. Same stuff is still happening. I'm about 5 minutes from uninstalling Edge. If my PC reboots, Edge takes over PDFs. So annoying

Go to Windows Settings > Apps > Default Apps. Under the "Choose default apps" section, locate the entry for Microsoft Edge and click on it. Select the default program as Microsoft Edge.
Once it accepts the setting, repeat the above and set it to Adobe Acrobat.

2024-05-01T20:33:19+00:00 The first two steps didn't work for me. I tried the third one and then looked for .pdf and selected Acrobat, it worked.

2024-05-01T17:14:47+00:00 This solution works temporarily. After the next Windows or MS Edge update, the .PDF settings default back to Edge. I know some people say that it is only after a major update, but I am seeing the hijack occur after any update. Right now I am manually going in and changing the filetype association from Edge to Acrobat every day. It is part of my daily routine now to correct microsoft's bugs.
