Hello JosephPare1,

I'm John an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user like you. I'll be happy to assist you today. I understand you have a problem with Edge opening automatically at startup. Did you made any changes recently? When was the last time it was working properly?

Kindly try the suggested methods below.

Solution

  1. Go to Start  > Settings .
  2. Select Accounts > Sign-in options.
  3. Turn off Automatically save my restartable apps when I sign out and restart them when I sign in

Other options:

  1. Press Start then search Settings > Apps > Startup > Please try to turn everything off. Check if Edge will no longer start automatically.
  2. Kindly check if you're using Windows Spotlight in your lock screen. Once you click Edge, it will automatically search for any word that you click after unlocking the device. It's recommended to change your lock screen settings.

I've been having the same problem and none of the settings changes worked for me.

After much searching, I found these instructions:

I am no longer plagued by Microsoft Edge.

Edge version 97.0.1072.62 contains the fix and will be installed per your regular update policies over the next day or so. If you'd like to force the update immediately, you can head over to edge://settings/help in the address bar or Settings > About Microsoft Edge and trigger the update manually.

If you've made any registry edits or GPO changes as mitigation, you can revert those after the update!

I still have to make sure that my cursor is not hovering over the center of the screen, where one of the pre-login screen messages is, when I click it to bring up the login screen, as that does open Edge.

When waking up the computer from sleep...

Press any key on your keyboard, EXCEPT the 'space bar', seems the space bar opens up Edge by default from sleep.

In the end this is what did the trick:

Go to Lock Screen Settings. In the Background drop down, select either Picture or Slideshow. Choose your picture.

Done.

The Windows Spotlight option is what starts up Edge.

Sincerely

I am wondering if the last person was saying he wants Edge to stop, not that he wants to know how to be sure it is his preference.

My problem- I hate Edge and Bing. Why? They are bullies. They sneak in and take over, kick my preferences off. I am a nurse practitioner. This happens during the day when I am working. I have lots of patient education handouts and forms for my patients to fill out- Depression Screening etc.
Having Microsoft helps me to organize and keep all of these forms in a well organized, easy to access location. EXCEPT when one of the bullies (used to be more Bing, Now is Edge) come in and stop me from getting my information AND ALSO FROM SEARCHING FOR MORE INFORMATION FOR A PATIENT.

So, I do not have time in my day seeing one patient after another to go in and work around Edge. My patient goes with out valuable information that he/she could read at home and use as a reference to help them with their diabetes, etc.

I understand you are a profit making business and I am a loyal Microsoft customer and fan. People want a FRIENDLY program to work with-like all of the other Microsoft programs.

I see the below ppst- How to remove Edge- very convenient,

Anyway- As a nurse practitioner I Love Microsoft,
Bing-if it still exists and Edge need to be given some "Anti-Bully" medications. No body loves a bully except their mothers- in this case Microsoft.

    To Don Varnau Volunteer,

Let Microsoft know that customers do not want Edge- see the above post. I just submitted the exact same thing.

Edge is a bully, see what the person says above It make them "HATE IT WORSE". SAME FOR ME AND WHO KNOWS HOW MANY OTHERS- WAIT, MICROSOFT MUST HAVE AN IDEA THAT PEOPLE HATE EDGE.
