HTML5 can generally be used as an alternative to Adobe Flash. Both include features for playing audio and video within web pages, It can also be used to play some basic HTML5 browser games and integrated vector graphics are possible with both.
I've spent the last week trying to find out how to watch TV Channels on Direct TV. The Direct TV help folks said do the following:
1. If you have Windows 10, install the Google Chrome browser.
2. Install Direct TV Player.
3. Install Adobe Flash Player.
4. Allow Flash Player to function on the "www.directv.com/entertainment" website.
You should now be able to watch TV Channels on Direct TV.
However, Adobe Flash Player is no longer supported on the Google Chrome browser. When I asked about alternatives, I was sent to Google Play for the Direct TV app. However, the Direct TV app on Google Play only works on android phones.
But, now I've gotten Direct TV to allow me to watch TV Channels my Windows 10 Pro laptop computer without installing or using Adobe Flash Player!!!
This is how I did it:
1. I installed the Ruffle Flash emulator on my laptop by:
a. Going to website https://ruffle.rs and downloaded "ruffle_nightly_2020_12_31_windows.zip" and "ruffle_nightly_2020_12_31_extension.zip" to a temporary folder on my hard drive.
b. Going to the temporary folder and doing "Extract All" on each file.
c. Opened "ruffle.exe" in the extracted folder "ruffle_nightly_2020_12_31_windows". This installed the Ruffle Flash emulator on my laptop. I had to explicitly allow the installation to run several times because my security software did not recognize the Ruffle Flash emulator as safe. However, my security software scanned the "ruffle.exe" file and found no problems.
2. Just to be safe, I rebooted my laptop next.
3. After my laptop was back up, I installed the Ruffle Flash emulator plugin on the Google Chrome Browser. To do this:
a. I went to the Ruffle Flash emulator wiki page "https://github.com/ruffle-rs/ruffle/wiki/Using-Ruffle#configure-wasm-mime-type”. The page contains the instructions for installing the Ruffle emulator plugin on the Google Chrome browser. Implementing the instructions took me to webpage "chrome://extensions/" on my Chrome browser where I turned on Developer Mode (top right corner) and clicked "Load unpacked". Next I navigated to the temporary "Extract All" folder "ruffle_nightly_2020_12_31_extension” and clicked Select All.
4. Next, I went to the "www.directv.com/entertainment" website and downloaded the official Direct TV files that are required to watch TV Channels on Direct TV:
a. DIRECTV_Player_12.1.exe
b. VideoGuard.13.0.exe
5. I installed both files on my laptop.
6. I cleared ALL the Google Chrome browsing data. (Three dot Icon -> Settings -> Clear browsing Data -> Check all items).
7. I shutdown the Google Chrome browser and rebooted my laptop.
8. When my laptop was back up I started the Google Chrome browser and went to the "www.directv.com/entertainment" website. Tried to watch a channel on my Direct TV AND IT WORKED!!! I've been watching a TV Channel now for about 3 hours and have seen no hiccups.
9. I should note my Direct TV box and my laptop are connected wirelessly to the same router in my home. I have not tried to watch a Direct TV channel through a “remote” internet connection.
The Ruffle Flash emulator is working for me!
what about for Chrome?
green screen in videos is not related with Flash Player, its related with issues in hardware video acceleration due outdated video drivers or never installed video drivers.
I'm having the same issue with video playback. Netflix, Hulu and most advert. video plays back with a green screen. Audio is fine. This all happened after uninstalling Flash Player.
