WHY am I being FORCED to deal with Microsoft edge?

This is insane. I woke up, turned my pc on and see that while my computer updated Microsoft sneakily installed a new version of edge. The icing on the cake, however, is that my system's screen was commandeered by an unclosable presentation forcing me to watch a slow and meticulous explanation of all of the changes you've made to my system that I never asked for and want nothing to do with.

This behavior is doing the opposite of what your company wants to happen. These forceful tactics do not make anyone want to use your service and immediately make you a nuisance and enemy to the user. It's as if you as a company feel your users are going to be too stupid to notice this change or too lazy to go back to using their original browser and just passively accept the changes you've made. We're not cattle. We make our own decisions. 

So here I am, taking up my time and energy trying to change things BACK to the way I had them, on the computer I pay a lot of money to own and maintain.

    Edge blows. I uninstalled it. I would have no use for Winblows if games ran on Linux.

    Dear MS staff who will never read this:

    Prepare for more fines and suits from the EU, boys! Seriously, stop doing this. It relies on the ignorance and stupidity of users of your operating system in order to 'trick them' into using your optional product. It is really disrespectful to people who use your operating system...hey, I hear all of the FREE, open source linux builds are getting more application software support every day and the developers don't pull this kind of stuff, imagine that! Are you scared of losing supremacy? Is that it? I hear fear makes people do really irrational things.

    Why don't you just do a regular advertising campaign highlighting the benefits of using edge over chrome and firefox? Is edge not good enough to do this or is tricking people just so much more effective that you just throw ethics out the window to make a buck?

    A windows user who is one more violation from never booting into his windows partition again, good thing steam games have been getting more linux support. 

    PS to the OP:  Like some of the other commenters on this forum, I also was able to go to my task manager and kill the process. However, I couldn't do it simply from my task bar. This is clearly another slimy MS developer tactic to get above the required effort vs motivation curve for noncompliance to their wishes.

    I  100% agree bro- it sucks- microsoft edge needs to stop trying to force itself on me. its worst than internet explorer

    The forced Microsoft Chrome update is disturbing and has created a problem for me. For one, when they upgraded my system (and without going through details that would lead to a security breach) This info is important and makes my life 1000 times harder to lose it, while I am working from home, during the pandemic. Now I am losing a lot information that will be impossible to recreate. To circumvent another forced update attempt,  I did a system restore and kept my pc off of the internet when not in use, disabled updates in two areas and disabled it in 3 locations in the regedit and it still finds away to reinstall, today...even while my internet connection was off, which was just creepy! When you go to windows update to uninstall the KB that downloaded Edge Chrome, it doesn't allow that particular update to uninstall.

    This experience has left such a sour taste in my mouth, I am done with Microsoft products and computers. I have been using their products since Windows 93, as a loyal user, but for the first time, will use a different OS and other office software applications.  I also find 365 to be a disaster as I prefer a Word processing application to not depend on the internet.  Microsoft has lost s lifelong customer.

    The update to the new version of Edge will not lead to a loss of information. If you explain what kind of information you apparently lost, we should be able to help you retrieve it. 

    You may have received the new Edge at the same time as Windows 10 was updated to the latest version 2004. This update is a complete reinstallation of Windows, and a few users have found that the contents of the system user folders (e.g. Documents, Pictures) were missing. Is this what you experienced?

    Browser data (e.g. favourites, saved passwords, tabs set aside) should have migrated to the new version when Edge was updated. If this is what happened - and again, a few users have experienced this - there are remedies.

    Please use the Ask a question option on this page to start your own thread, explaining in detail what the problem is. Your post at the end of a long, old discussion will not be seen by anyone coming to this forum to help, and it won't ever be seen by anyone (i.e. the Edge product team) in a position to do something about your concerns. To make your views known where it matters, use the feedback option within the browser (Alt-Shift-i). All feedback is seen by members of the team.
