WHY am I being FORCED to deal with Microsoft edge?

This is insane. I woke up, turned my pc on and see that while my computer updated Microsoft sneakily installed a new version of edge. The icing on the cake, however, is that my system's screen was commandeered by an unclosable presentation forcing me to watch a slow and meticulous explanation of all of the changes you've made to my system that I never asked for and want nothing to do with.

This behavior is doing the opposite of what your company wants to happen. These forceful tactics do not make anyone want to use your service and immediately make you a nuisance and enemy to the user. It's as if you as a company feel your users are going to be too stupid to notice this change or too lazy to go back to using their original browser and just passively accept the changes you've made. We're not cattle. We make our own decisions.

So here I am, taking up my time and energy trying to change things BACK to the way I had them, on the computer I pay a lot of money to own and maintain.

Microsoft Edge | Other | Windows 10

... it ... is forcing me to use Edge browser which I do  not want to do.

Windows is insisting that you the user make the choice of which browser to use by default. It will not - in the interests of user choice - allow applications (like third-party browsers) to alter your own preference.

Click Start and select Settings, then Apps. Under Default apps, select the web browser you want to use.

You may have to repeat this exercise if an application tries to change the setting in the future.

That is what happened with me I changed back to Firefox as my default the next morning my default had changed back to Edge .   I don't do a lot of anything mostly play and read my email and watch utube videos Well I use to before Edge.   nothing I do bring back my notication for those videos.  I have tried my self  but could not .  I contacted my Dell service tech they could not get my notification for me. I would like very to have IE and Firefox with my utube notication. I am not that versed with computers.   I just mostly play and that is why I purchased tech service from Dell.

I cannot understand the point of forcing users to use your product. MS edge keeps returning to my desktop because of this, and also tries to run without my consent. Who in the right mind thought this was a good idea? I really think they need to stop this, because they are just losing credablitiy at this point.

I really think I might just bounce to Linux, because I do not want their **** browser.

I do not have a suggestion, (sadly) but I can back you up on this. Microsoft Edge is slowing down my computer, and I cannot disable it or anything, like the previous variation. I really think Microsoft is **** with their own brand, and ruining the trust of half of the user base. If you didn't buy any license for Windows, I suggest moving over to Linux. (Maybe even Hackintoshing, but that is illegal so only do that as a last ditch effort.)

You must be having other issues with your computer as when I was presented with the Edge update upon login I was able to close the browser just fine.

No, I had to do something similar as well;  ctrl+alt+delete and then signed out rather than using the task manager.

And Richard seems to be missing a huge chunk of my point, either purposely or otherwise. Just because there are people out there who are perfectly okay and compliant with these tactics does not mean it's okay. I SERIOUSLY DOUBT the "vast majority" of users are perfectly fine turning on their machines to see changes made without their consent. I'm SURE those users who already used Edge were fine with an update, however that's not the issue here and framing the situation that way is dishonest. On your own forums there are how many topics started asking how to reverse this update?

Well, the vast majority are very happy With their Windows 10 Machines. Maybe they don't get as upset because they read the License that Microso grants-you know the one everyone has to agree too, the one if read fully gives them the right to change their software, methods of delivery, etc. People who post on this and all the other forums are only a small percentage-probably less than 15%- of all the hundreds of Millions of uses in the world. You don't like the new edge get back legacy and run them side by side. Use Firefox, or even Chrome.

I hope this helps and if you need any further assistance please post and we will be glad to assist you.

    *I'm sorry, I can't help myself*

    15% of 100 Million is 15 Million.

As of today, August 31st, 2020; I have become a statistic.

I was greeted by the Microsoft Edge icon on my Desktop and Taskbar. Luckily, I was not greeted by the horrible screen that can only be closed by following the prompts or logging out.

I am not happy about how they do business BUT I do understand that I've accepted their Terms of Use and forfeit any legal weight in doing so. Thus, nothing can be done about it, at least not by me!
