This is insane. I woke up, turned my pc on and see that while my computer updated Microsoft sneakily installed a new version of edge. The icing on the cake, however, is that my system's screen was commandeered by an unclosable presentation forcing me to watch a slow and meticulous explanation of all of the changes you've made to my system that I never asked for and want nothing to do with.
This behavior is doing the opposite of what your company wants to happen. These forceful tactics do not make anyone want to use your service and immediately make you a nuisance and enemy to the user. It's as if you as a company feel your users are going to be too stupid to notice this change or too lazy to go back to using their original browser and just passively accept the changes you've made. We're not cattle. We make our own decisions.
So here I am, taking up my time and energy trying to change things BACK to the way I had them, on the computer I pay a lot of money to own and maintain.

I agree. One sunny afternoon, I turned on my laptop only to find the screen hogged by the new Edge update. I had to wait until it was finished setting up before I could continue to Chrome, never to use Edge again. If Microsoft wants its users to use Edge, forcing it is not the way to do it.
Microsoft is not forcing anything. You gave them permission to install Edge or any other updates when you agreed to the Terms and Conditions when you installed Windows 10. Microsoft granted you the right to install and use Windows 10 but, they kept ownership of Windows 10 and the to determine what features would be installed, When, and by what method.
Sad to say that you are probably right. Next might be TV manufacturers that force channels you must watch. Buyer beware!
Windows was at its best with win 7 and has declined ever since. Edge one of dozens of "forced" apps that suck. Most of the garbage they put in the start menu I never wanted and will never use.
I have left feedback elsewhere too, such as twitter directed towards the edge and microsoft accounts, given I really don't use edge I wasn't aware of the Alt-Shift-I feedback mechanism. This forum topic is the top result on google at the moment though, so perhaps it shouldn't surprise you that you'd also see complaints here.
Honestly though I have waning hopes of any avenue producing much of a result, that said I'll still 'rant' on each avenue I can about this given it is truly quite unethical programming, just as plenty of others are.
Additionally I felt it worthwhile to point out to those trying to shut down the conversation because it is 'legal' that they are dramatically missing the point most people are making. In the nicest way possible, while you haven't got strung up on legality, the category of 'people trying to shut down the conversation' does include you I feel. Initially denying the problem, then erroneously stating it must be an unusual setup people are using or 3rd party software messing with windows, then again erroneously stating that a browser is a fundamental and inseparable part of an OS (Windows itself may attempt to obfuscate the process, and the OS may always have capacity to connect to the internet, but a browser itself is a program within the OS not an inseparable part. That isn't to say running without any browser at all is advisable, although one could use any browser of their choosing).
I am disgusted at Microsoft. I try to use Skype this morning after their dodgy update and it will now not allow me to use it on my favourite browser but is forcing me to use Edge browser which I do not want to do.
Is there an easy way to bypass Edge to use Skype ?
