That was a strange answer. I was looking for an option (choice) to select more than 10 visible search links as in Google. 

They have also a new tab when selecting a link.

I have found out what the issue is, in the meantime. Microsoft Edge will by default open the page in a new tab, actually, as long as the application whose link is clicked is in the same virtual desktop. It is only when the application (e.g., e-mail reader) is in a different virtual desktop that a new browser window will be spawned -- in that very same virtual desktop. So it is actually not an issue with Microsoft Edge, but rather with Task View.

Sorry, I completely misunderstood. By this extension, if you right-click and select open in a new tab, it gets focus. Let me check if there is an extension available for that.
