How to make links open in a new tab in Edge Chromium

Actually, yes...  I'm using Edge and, after some added extensions, I'm fairly happy. EXCEPT -- when I clicked a link as in an email, the link did NOT open a new tab in Edge. [I don't want to Ctrl+click or anything like that!]

I stumbled onto the solution -- for me at least. I use Google as my search engine. If you look at Google search settings [Search Settings (google.com)], you will find option: 

Where results open Open each selected result in a new browser window  [Y/N]

>>>>>>     Set to Yes and clicked links open in new tab.     <======

Couple that with "Switch to New Tab" extension and life -- and Edge -- are good!!!

 When I try will an application, it does not open in new tabs.  Please provide setting for the Edge-Chromium browser.

Actually, the question was: "how do we stop this? We do NOT want a new window to open, we want to go straight the page in the window we have open.

See post above, sadly this has to be done each time so I think I will be going back to Google Chrome until Microsoft fixes this annoyance

Actually, my original question just to be clear was how to make links open in a new tab, not open in the page we have open, which is what Edge was doing and was incredibly annoying. But as it seems you can't, I've just stopped using Edge and reverted to Chrome.
