In IE, it was possible under Settings>General>Tabs: When a pop-up is encountered: (select) Always open pop-ups in a new tab.
The above applied to links or whatever to open in new tab beside the existing tab (as opposed to a new seperate window).
Why can I not find anywhere where this setting is in Edge that I can set it to open links and pop-ups in a new tab?
Or perhaps I'm looking for something that no longer exists.
(based on other responses, this is nothing to do with Bing or using Bing)

- Open Edge – 3 dots located top right corner – Settings – Default browser – Internet Options – General Tab – Tabs
- Under Open links from other programs in: Make sure a check mark is on “A new tab in the current window”
- Click “Ok” to save.
Way of topic, we're talking about an edge configuration, not the interference of pc settings. Why did you stray from the EDGE topic and bring into a pc matter. This setting IS IN EDGE!
This is within Edge found under Edge settings and I can confirm does work and this answer has been marked as right answer. It is not interfering with any PC settings. I would just make one addtional suggestion, in that the Tabbed Browsing Settings dialogue box that you see in the screenshot - under when a pop-up is encoutered, Always open pop-ups in a new tab needs to be selected.
Do reply (with screenshots if possible) if you are experiencing issues with the above directions, and I'll do best to help.

Obviously, I did not previously understand that this setting was in Edge. I was able to resolve the issue before your post but thank you for taking the time to answer my question.
I would add that the inability of so many people, online and in person, to state an opinion or fact, respond to a question or request, or otherwise communicate without snark, insult, dismissal, or in another negative manner is a very destructive to all involved.
It doesn't seem that this is in Edge any more...on the Default browser setting page, the only option is to Make Edge Default Browser. No "Internet Settings" page.
