How do I set Edge to open links in a new tab automatically?

In IE, it was possible under Settings>General>Tabs: When a pop-up is encountered: (select) Always open pop-ups in a new tab.
The above applied to links or whatever to open in new tab beside the existing tab (as opposed to a new seperate window).

Why can I not find anywhere where this setting is in Edge that I can set it to open links and pop-ups in a new tab?

Or perhaps I'm looking for something that no longer exists.

(based on other responses, this is nothing to do with Bing or using Bing)

Try below.

  1. Open Edge – 3 dots located top right corner – Settings – Default browser – Internet Options – General Tab – Tabs
  2. Under Open links from other programs in: Make sure a check mark is on “A new tab in the current window”
  3. Click “Ok” to save.

    Hi Blue,
    Under 'Allow sites to be reloaded in Internet Explorer mode (IE mode)', click that Default button and select Allow.
    That will then 'ungrey' the Internet Options and will open the dialogue box

    NB - some may also find they need to include the following adjustment:
    Just above #4 under When a pop-up is encourtered, also ensure 'Always open pop-ups in a new tab' is selected.
    For all, after OK, restart browser (close Edge and re-open) for changes to take effect.

    Larry you're a Legend!

    While I had got this working on my Edge a long time ago when Edge and IE where still interacting/possible to toggle between the two, I wasn't able to figure out how to get the fix to work for my colleagues who were on Windows 11 and starting with Edge. Now you share this, I can see the option to adjust the default back to IE is still there!! :D
    I tested this on a colleagues Windows 11 laptop (I'm still on W.10) - there's one slight adjustment to your screen shot:
    the Tabs dialogue box open, under 'When a pop-up is encourtered:' select > Always open pop-ups in a new tab. At least to get the tabs to continue to open along the top of the window.

    (The newer method of individual windows open will work by hovering the mouse over the taskbar to select which screen want open, but for those who are used to having a row of tabs along the top of their screen, this new style/method is a big change and as typical with many updates is only learnt through trial and error. Microsoft (and not exclusively to Microsoft (looking at you Adobe), fail to realise that many work under pressure and visual and action changes to suddenly been foisted on a user unexpectedly when they're already working under time constraints and/or deadlines, creates many negative effects mentally overwhelming many with additional stress and anxiety.)
