How do I set Edge to open links in a new tab automatically?

In IE, it was possible under Settings>General>Tabs: When a pop-up is encountered: (select) Always open pop-ups in a new tab.
The above applied to links or whatever to open in new tab beside the existing tab (as opposed to a new seperate window).

Why can I not find anywhere where this setting is in Edge that I can set it to open links and pop-ups in a new tab?

Or perhaps I'm looking for something that no longer exists.

(based on other responses, this is nothing to do with Bing or using Bing)

Try below.

  1. Open Edge – 3 dots located top right corner – Settings – Default browser – Internet Options – General Tab – Tabs
  2. Under Open links from other programs in: Make sure a check mark is on “A new tab in the current window”
  3. Click “Ok” to save.

    If you have a mouse wheel, click that instead of the primary button.

    Thanks for that tip. I was not aware of that functionality for clicking the mouse wheel.

    While I absolutely agree that this lack of functionality in Edge was very shortsighted by the developers of the original Edge version in 2015, as well as all the developers behind the 110 newer versions that have been released since that time (as of the writing of this comment), There is a workaround for this problem.

    While it is slightly less convenient, there is the option to right click on the link in the web search and manually select "Open in a New Tab"... EVERY SINGLE TIME.

    But at least with this work around, one would not need, "...to navigate completely away from a page to scour information in a referencing link...".

    doesn't provide a solution when you seek to open a link inside a page in a new tab. still required to scour needlessly. i was going to give edge a go with a new build and install. back to firefox or chrome.
