My Microsoft Edge browser keeps freezing up. I have tried all the suggested solutions with no success. I like the design and functionality offered by Edge, but will change to Firefox until I get a notice that Microsoft has fixed the problem with Edge freeze ups.

Replying with version number due to same issue:

    Version 97.0.1072.69 (Official build) (64-bit)

This has started after the following updates were installed on 1/12/2022:

Feature update to Windows 10, version 21H2

KB4023057: Update for Windows Update Service components

    January 11, 2022—KB5009543 (OS Builds 19042.1466, 19043.1466, and 19044.1466)

January 11, 2022-KB5008876 Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8 for Windows 10, version 20H2, Windows Server, version 20H2, Windows 10 Version 21H1, and Windows 10 Version 21H2

Along with the latest virus/threat protection updates.

FYI, the issue tracks along the same line as I've seen previously when certain Ads will cause the memory usage to spike and the browser to freeze. A website will work just fine, and then suddenly freeze (presumably when the Ad changes/reloads). And sometimes the very same website won't freeze the browser at all. The freezing affects all open tabs. The entire browser needs to be shut down, not just the offending tab.

    Hope this helps.

    Version 97.0.1072.69 (Official build) (64-bit)

Edge seems to hang mostly when when scrolling down through a long page, like a news app with a lot of items. It sometimes pops up a short on memory notice ( using 70% ) , rarely. But it seems to be a memory problem, like it never releases things it scrolls over. I have 16GB memory.

Also occasionally locks up while streaming video, but I'm not sure it's Edge doing it because it happens with some services but not others. Like Acorn but not Netflix. Hope that helps.

I would like to get the version number of your Microsoft Edge.

    1. Click on the three dots menu button.
    2. Go to Help and feedback.
    3. Click on About Microsoft Edge.

If Edge freezes before getting to the About Microsoft Edge page, you can get the version number from Windows settings.

    1. Click on the Start button.
    2. Click on Settings.
    3. Click on Apps.
    4. In the list of Apps, click on Microsoft Edge.

    Hi everyone,

I would like anyone who has this issue to run the repair option and see if that solves the problem.

    1. Click on the Start button.
    2. Click on Settings.
    3. Click on Apps.
    4. In the list of Apps, click on Microsoft Edge.
    5. Click on Modify.
    6. Click on Yes if you have the User Access Control dialog displayed.
    7. Click on Repair.
    8. After it finishes the repair, run Microsoft Edge.

    Eric
