Edge and Chrome freezes while browsing making Windows not responsive for 1 minute follow by Windows explorer behave strangely

As title says, my Windows behave strangely every now and then. When browsing, it may freeze for a minute or so follow by making I can't open everything. If I'm lucky enough, this issue last for 2 hours, if not, I need to restart the PC. Photo below tells it all.

    I found the solution on YOUTUBE after being on a chat for two hours with microsoft.  TURN OFF HARDWARE Acceleration on EDGE and CHROME

    Thanks.  I will give this a try.  I just don't understand why this has just started happening so recently.

    Hi folks, 

    The fix for this is in version 88.0.705.53, so please check that you've got the latest update at edge://settings/help and manually update from there if required! If you're still seeing this issue after the update, please let me know ASAP and I'll pass the info on to the team to investigate further.

    I followed instructions in BigDominic's post above and it corrected the problem in both Edge and Chrome - Thank you!

    Alexandra-R:  I first checked version of Edge:  Version 88.0.705.56 (Official build) (64-bit)

    and still had problem with Edge and Chrome (but not FireFox) as described above until i manually changed the "hardware acceleration" setting.
