Edge and Chrome freezes while browsing making Windows not responsive for 1 minute follow by Windows explorer behave strangely

As title says, my Windows behave strangely every now and then. When browsing, it may freeze for a minute or so follow by making I can't open everything. If I'm lucky enough, this issue last for 2 hours, if not, I need to restart the PC. Photo below tells it all.

    It seems to be good, so thank you so much.  I don't really understand the ins and outs of what that change in settings does but as long as it is working, all good.  Thank you, again.

    I have version 88.0.705.56, so ahead of that version.

    I will check today if I still have an issue, whilst I am working from home.

    I followed instructions in BigDominic's post above and it corrected the problem in both Edge and Chrome - Thank you!

    Alexandra-R:  I first checked version of Edge:  Version 88.0.705.56 (Official build) (64-bit)

    and still had problem with Edge and Chrome (but not FireFox) as described above until i manually changed the "hardware acceleration" setting.
