Hello,
Edge version 97.0.1072.62 contains the fix and will be installed per your regular update policies over the next day or so. If you'd like to force the update immediately, you can head over to edge://settings/help in the address bar or Settings > About Microsoft Edge and trigger the update manually.
If you've made any registry edits or GPO changes as mitigation, you can revert those after the update!
> (OS) Settings > Apps > Startup and shut Edge OFF

Edge is not shown as a startup option. This has been infected in to our computers by an update I'm sure because this came out of the blue. It's not the end of the world, but it makes me want to purposely never use Edge no matter what for anything in the future...just out of spite.
Hey! I've just started having this problem too! I haaaaatttttteeeee Edge and even more so that they try and force its use on us. Which circuit do I need to chuck a cup of water on to get rid of this thing??? Microsoft, this isn't fair! I'm trying to study and this is extremely irritating and distracting. Make it gone.
Getting absolutely sick of scripted pro-forma replies that offer no help. Most advice on these pages is completely useless.
This started for me this morning - very annoying !
I eventually stopped it by disabling a couple of scheduled update tasks.
- Open Task Scheduler
- Click on the first Tab > Task Scheduler Library
- Disable MicrosoftEdgeUpdateTaskMachineCore
- Disable MicrosoftEdgeUpdateTaskMachineUA
Reboot and hopefully the problem is stopped.
Edge works normally but you will need to do a manual update every now and then. Or re-enable the tasks and reboot to get back to auto update but with a return of the problem.
I had this problem in Windows 11 recently. This worked for me.
I don't consider it an ideal solution, but it is at least a workaround until Microsoft fixes this.
