How do I stop Edge from automatically opening on start up? Windows 10 Pro 64 20H2

(No EDGE today) :) The reg hack worked (so far).

I have been using Linux (Ubuntu) for decades but Windows is my main machine on all 17 in my business. Because of Win 11 forcing the use of MS accounts I started the very long and complicated process of dual booting my MAIN machine. A Ryzen 5950x, 64gb of GSkill 3200Mhz ram, RX590 over to Ubuntu. Let's just say, it's not a very simple job because of the hundreds of programs I use. I use many virtual machines, I have a massive 400TB Raid 5 server with Enterprise networking etc. That machine runs GREAT off Linux. Raid and Linux and large data is awesome.

The problem is gaming. Running 3D graphics inside a VM is a problem and I refuse to run 2 video cards (1 with passthru) in my main machine.

If you just surf the internet, check emails, play internet games... then Linux is very easy to setup and use. It's almost install and go. BUT, if you have a very complicated setup like I have... migrating to Linux is quite complex. I have spent hundreds of hours researching things (terminal / command line) do fix issues in Ubuntu.

Ubuntu handles multi monitor quite poorly (I have a single 55" 4k monitor in the middle surrounded by 4 x 29" LG IPS monitors) and Ubuntu hates when you scale 1 monitor and not the others. They will fix it better in the future, I'm sure, but right now, it does cause issues. (Ubuntu 18.04 LTS and Ubuntu 20.x).

I can now spend most of my day in Linux. Shortcuts across the network kinda suck in Ubuntu to open documents. I like shortcuts all over my desktop and Ubuntu is a pain in the ... to get that working cleanly and quickly. Can't just drag icons from a browser onto your desktop. It won't work. Gotta do some messy things with .desktop files and... some things in Linux are great (stability, and it truly IS yours, update when you want, change only what you want changed). Other things, MS does way better. Installations, ease of use are better in Windows by leaps and bounds.

Of course, once Ubuntu cleans up installations (everyone using .deb files) and fixes certain annoying issues... then it should surpass windows. But, for the novice person... if they are doing more than surfing and checking emails... Linux is still too unpolished.

However, I can't stand forced cloud signins so I have begun the long complicated process of migrating my master machine (and then all 17'ish) of my rest of my companies computers over to Linux.

Also, WINE is getting better all the time. And games are now being designed for Linux especially thanks to Steam and Internet based games. So, more and more games will work in Linux every day.

If you cram it down my throat. I will avoid it at any cost. A shame too considering Edge finally started peaking my interest. There was some nice innovation and features that are new that I would have put into my own software if I had of developed it. :) Sadly, I refuse to use it due to the way it's endlessly pushed on me. Also, every computer I setup with all the thousands of customers... I hide the Edge icon from customers. Saves the future hastle of the browser version being tied to the OS. (cough cough IE). You could only get the newer IE when buying the newer windows. So, to save customers that headache, long ago we decided to preinstall Firefox and Chrome and hide all traces of IE/Edge on every system we sell and maintain. So, far... that's like 12,000+ computers (customers) that have no clue what Edge is.

thanks for the hint. I did so as you advised, after updating edge I've changed my reg-key to default.

Unfortunately edge pops up after login as before. Maybe I changed some other policy settings responsible for this.

But for the moment I distribute the changed reg-key again. It works for my whole company and my users are satisfied.

So far, this works!!!   Thank you!   We shall see tomorrow (sometimes popups can be daily) but... never would have thought to look in there for startup items.

Actually, Edge doesn't handle secure PDF's properly quite often from the Government or other institutions.  The only perfect handling of PDF's is Adobe Reader. 

Also, I have been in IT, program 30+ languages, and I can't (so far) get rid of Edge starting up.  I would uninstall it, but it's stuck in there.  I don't mind Edge BUT I can't stand stuff being forced down my throat.

Everytime I turn around... "Windows, it's all yours!" except... it's not... because everytime I sign in, everytime there is an update, or some "security" patch... they always try and stuff a MS account down my throat, change defaults I don't want, and basically add stuff "right in my face" I don't want.

You know how many customers hate that weather change?  They slide the mouse over it and it pops up this HUGE box right in their face.  I am smart enough to get rid of it.  They are not.  I don't mind Edge but I will never use it as long as it's crammed down my throat.  I will use Firefox or Chrome and Opera.

I'm tired of dialogs that try and trick you *like* some phishing scam to sign in with a MS account.  With hidden cancel buttons or inobvious ways to "escape" without signing in with a MS account.

I don't want my computer tied into the cloud.  I hate MS One Drive.  It's horribly programmed.  With hidden redirects for Pictures.  Customers complain "hey, where did my pictures go?  sometimes I have 100, sometimes I have 2,000.  What is going on?" and then you dig into it and it's all because of hidden junctions and a file system mess because they redirected Users/Pictures to One Drive/Pictures and it sometimes works... but usually it's a quirky mess like most things MS makes.

The ONLY product I have nothing bad to say about is robocopy.  It's pretty much rock solid.  So, there... 1 compliment.  Did they buy it out off someone else?   Makes me wonder...
