How do I stop Edge from automatically opening on start up? Windows 10 Pro 64 20H2

Edge is opening EVERY TIME I REBOOT!

Insidiously it is absent from all STARTUP control systems so we CAN'T STOP it.

Does congressional investigations of unfair trade practices do nothing?

How can microsoft be so trumpianly abusive?

Hello, 

Edge version 97.0.1072.62 contains the fix and will be installed per your regular update policies over the next day or so. If you'd like to force the update immediately, you can head over to edge://settings/help in the address bar or Settings > About Microsoft Edge and trigger the update manually.

If you've made any registry edits or GPO changes as mitigation, you can revert those after the update!

    I read through this thread and what seemed like a million others without a result.

    I ended up minimizing clearing my browser history, minimizing the edge window and putting it in some inconspicuous corner of my screen where I can easily click it off after startup.

    That's a relatively good little workaround and I'll never voluntarily touch Edge again.

    I also tried everything and what worked for me was to use Autoruns utility (Sysinternals) and delete every Edge related record in "Scheduled Tasks" and "Services" sections. Will see how long it stays fixed.

    The masses will use Edge simply because it is always open on their desktop.

    This problem affects just a few dozen users out of the hundreds of millions of Windows 10 users in the world. Edge is not designed to start automatically with Windows, so it will not be "always open on their desktop" for the great majority.

    Edge continues to open regardless.

    Not one PC, all 21 computers at my office and home.

    If you are responsible for all these machines, you are in a good position to be able to find out what it is in their configuration that causes Edge to launch with Windows. As a business user, you should be able to submit a request for support, which will enable the Edge support staff to diagnose the problem you're facing and explain how to remedy it. Support for business (microsoft.com)

    Please come back here and tell us how you got on; there are several affected users following this thread who would be grateful for any solution you can share with them.
