Every time I boot up or restart my computer, Microsoft Edge automatically opens up. This has been happening ever since the new update for Microsoft Edge. How do I get it to stop?

Microsoft Edge | Open the browser | Windows 10

Do you realise just how arrogant and condescending that reply is? Basically you are saying that the thread is humorous because (in your opinion) people shouldn't want what they do.

    1. Why do people have to give a reason that they don't want an app they don't use opening automatically? And why does that imply "hatred" as you suggest?
    2. It is an example (the latest of many) of Microsoft apparently thinking they know better than we do what we want (or should want).
    3. I have no idea why you believe this relevant.. It isn't.
    4. Pot Kettle black. Everybody on this thread seems to know what they are doing, and what they are talking about. YOU keep ignoring what is being said, and thinking they must mean something else.
    5. That is YOUR opinion. You are entitled to that opinion, but we all have different preferences. MANY people prefer Chrome, and they are perfectly entitled to that preference. This therad isn't about whether Edge might be "Better" or not. It is about the fact that from the last release, it started opening automatically on login, when it has not done that before., and those of us posting here do not want it to do that. You may believe we SHOULD want it to do that, but there is NO good reason why. Not all of us even have the browser we WANT starting automatically, never mind the one we don't want.

The only programs which should start automatically are ones required to keep the system running, and any others we specifically CHOOSE to have run on startup.

Now as to the issue and the various suggested solutions - in my case (and clearly from the responses in many others) Edge was already not in the startup tab of task manager, or the Start folder, or the other places it has been suggested we remove it.

The one thing which does seem to have worked for me is turning off the option in Edge settings to keep background tasks running.

Same here, I've tried everything to get rid of it and nothing works.
