Why did Microsoft Edge Import all my bookmarks from Chrome without asking?

I do not use Microsoft Edge. After this mornings snafu with Defender I decided to open Edge to make sure that it was up to date. No it wasn't. So after updating Edge and restarting it, without my permission Microsoft decided to import all my bookmarks and favorites from Chrome?. What is going on at Microsoft?

when you install windows it's the default browser. Then when you go to download Chrome they give you all this **** about how great Edge is. Then unlike before you have to change every default permissions manually to Chrome.

Now they go and Import all my stuff from Chrome WITHOUT ASKING? Then after importing everything you have to go to settings to tell EDGE not to do that....Couldn't this behavior trigger a lawsuit or something like it did in Europe? Ha Ha Behavior...wasn't that their big SNAFU this morning?

ranting and raving done...

have a great day

Hello,

This feature can be deactivated in the settings menu. To do this click on the ellipsis(...) top right > Settings > Profiles > Import browser data > Import browser data from Google Chrome on each launch > Turn off.

Yeah, super ridiculous how it's implemented. Automatically wipes out your stuff (favorites/passwords/settings/themes/etc.) if you have an "empty" Default profile because most users prefer to never sign in a profile to Edge. They made the inane decision to Turn on "import" profile by default. If you do sign in a microsoft account profile, then I think it's turned off but they still have it ready to just suddenly import everything from Chrome if you so much as look at it funny.

All is not lost, you might still have a bookmarks.bak file in your User Data folders (C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Edge\User Data\Default) if you haven't opened and closed Edge too much since you discovered they've over written your data.

Awful feature, awful decision-making by the Edge team.

    how can microsofts do this?

this complete garbage browser that no one wants. just to improve the revenues and try to get the data from chrome they take over the bookmarks from chrome without asking.

As if all the Microsoft products weren't already full of garbage like "onedrive" that constantly asks you if you want to store your data in the cloud.

I hate it. I will never use Edge, on principle. Get rid of this bad browser.

    WE DON'T WANT IT.
