Chinese characters disappear when editing a pdf file on Microsoft Edge

Yes this is still a problem in latest version of Edge 101.0.1210.53 on Windows 11 Pro 10.0.22621 Build 22621
I noticed in Edge settings that there is the Microsoft Editor which mentions that Chinese is not currently available in the Microsoft Editor (basic spellcheck available). I turned the Editor off and tried to input Chinese text using the IME candidate window and then clicked away from the window, but the Chinese text disappears. However when entering English text and clicking out of the edit window, the text remains on the document correctly.

However, what I noticed is that the edits in Chinese text are actually working, but just not displaying in Edge. In other words, if I make an edit in Chinese text it doesn't directly display in Edge. But the edit is indeed there since I can open the PDF file in another editor like Foxit PDF Editor online and can see the Chinese text I had entered previously in Edge (but where Edge was not showing or displaying the font chars for some strange reason). Firefox, Opera, and Adobe Acrobat online are not showing the Chinese text, but curiously Adobe Acrobat online does indeed show the 2 edit boxes when I hover over the area I made the edits, but does not display any Chinese text font in those boxes.

In summary, Edits in Chinese text are working but not displaying, so users have no idea edits are being made because it doesn't display on the document in Edge!

I understand that you are having problems editing a .PDF file in Chinese characters;

Initially I recommend that you try to add the Chinese Language to Edge;

Open Edge and click (...) in the upper right corner of the screen to access Settings;
Click on Languages ​​on the left;
Click on Add Languages ​​and add the Chinese language;
Close Edge and open it again;
Check if you are now able to edit the file in Chinese;

I have a solution that consistently works for me. Apparently, Microsoft is partnering with Adobe to bring an "improved" PDF editor, which is apparently just the old one but with fixes and optimisations. One of those fixes seems to be this very issue.

All you have to do is enable the flag: #edge-new-pdf-viewer

To do so, paste this in your address bar: edge://flags/#edge-new-pdf-viewer

Then, restart. Chinese/unicode rendering fixes seem to have been added only to the new PDF viewer in the latest update. After doing this, I experienced absolutely no problems trying to annotate Chinese characters.

I know this was posted quite a while ago, but it looks like this thread has gotten a lot of votes and views recently so I wanted to check in and see if you (or anyone landing on this thread via search) are still seeing this behavior on the latest version of Microsoft Edge?

Hi, I experience the same problem today. The English and numbers are showing, but the Chinese, even it is put in between, disappear when it came out of the edit mode.

Appreciate if anyone can help. Thanks.
