How do you disable "Trending now" in Edge search bar?

Plenty of questions on this and most seem to refer to older versions of Windows and/or Edge.

Using Windows 11 and Edge Version 107.0.1418.42 (Official build) (64-bit), both up to date.

As soon as I attempt to type in the search bar, a "Trending now" drop-down appears.

I've got everything turned off that anyone has ever suggested but I can't get rid of it as shown below.

After months of hoping someone would come up with an answer, I believe I found it. Under the Edge Settings, follow Privacy, search, and services, scroll to the bottom, select Address bar and search, select Search on new tabs uses search box or address bar, choose Address bar. DONE!

UPDATE: Right after posting this, I discovered on another Windows 11 machine that you can achieve the above on any other search engine as the default except Bing, but if you stick with the Search box (Recommended) on those other search engines, this will bring back the Bing Trending nonsense. Hope what I have discovered helps... a little.

What a pain, this isn't the only area I am dissatisfied with. Microsoft get your feces together and stop infecting what has been a good product, more or new is not necessarily better.

Thank you for your assistance! Your explanation was effective and resolved the issue. Regrettably, a significant amount of time was expended before this resolution was achieved.

As highlighted in your recent update, it is imperative to select a default search engine alternative to Bing. Utilizing the address bar for searches is essential to prevent the recurrence of unwanted Trending ****.

    Yes but it’s about money and Microsoft isn’t really considering what their customers want. I had left Microsoft in large part because of this same type of mentality. It wasn’t until windows 10 that I gravitated back. Microsoft Windows 11 with the Edge browser using Bing as the search engine did not initially jam the trending down your throat.

    I think they followed Googles lead because of commissions paid per click and couldn’t resist that cash flow.

    I’m curious about your Bing extension are you using it in a different browser than edge?

    So far Edge using the Brave search engine works even though I’d rather use bing search engine with Edge.

    I am using it on Edge, I finally ditched Chrome after decades of use due to Google's relentless crackdown on Youtube's adblocker, and converted to bing search while I am at it. The extension works great so far, it is as if I have the built-in bing as default, but with the search in address bar selectable.

    My bad, I linked to the wrong extension, the one that changes both Homepage and Search will not fix the issue, I have updated my post with the link to the add-on that only changes the search engine.

    I must have downloaded the correct extension because it only changed the search engine in my address bar. My homepage and everything else has not changed, when I click on the address bar to do a search I do not get trending and the search results are provided by bing. Just checked against your updated link and that is the one I downloaded and works great.

    Cheers for tracking this down and posting the link out here. So far it seems my edge browser is back to the way it should be.
