How do you disable "Trending now" in Edge search bar?

Plenty of questions on this and most seem to refer to older versions of Windows and/or Edge.

Using Windows 11 and Edge Version 107.0.1418.42 (Official build) (64-bit), both up to date.

As soon as I attempt to type in the search bar, a "Trending now" drop-down appears.

I've got everything turned off that anyone has ever suggested but I can't get rid of it as shown below.

After months of hoping someone would come up with an answer, I believe I found it. Under the Edge Settings, follow Privacy, search, and services, scroll to the bottom, select Address bar and search, select Search on new tabs uses search box or address bar, choose Address bar. DONE!

UPDATE: Right after posting this, I discovered on another Windows 11 machine that you can achieve the above on any other search engine as the default except Bing, but if you stick with the Search box (Recommended) on those other search engines, this will bring back the Bing Trending nonsense. Hope what I have discovered helps... a little.

What a pain, this isn't the only area I am dissatisfied with. Microsoft get your feces together and stop infecting what has been a good product, more or new is not necessarily better.

Thank you for your assistance! Your explanation was effective and resolved the issue. Regrettably, a significant amount of time was expended before this resolution was achieved.

As highlighted in your recent update, it is imperative to select a default search engine alternative to Bing. Utilizing the address bar for searches is essential to prevent the recurrence of unwanted Trending ****.

I'm still getting the "Trending Now" nonsense because I use the Search Box, not the Address bar for searches.

Selecting Bing for a search engine eliminates the Search Box/Address bar choice and just defaults to the Search box form where you get the Trending Now list.

If you select any search engine other than Bing, you then get the choice of using the Search Box or Address bar for searches. Selecting the Address bar for searches will eliminate the problem.

Thats weird. So I'm running windows 11, Edge browser, and then I'm selecting Settings, Privacy Search and Services, then all the way to the bottom on Address Bar and Search, Search Engine Used in the Address Bar. There I select Brave as my default search engine. Below the setting search engine used in the address bar, at the bottom there is Search Suggestions and Filters. I also went into that option and turned off all the items inside there.

Other than that I believe I've gone through Edge and turned off almost everything unless its about privacy and security.

When you get trending now as soon as you type something in the search bar you are on the Edge Browser, or have you gone to Bing.com?

Thanks Rich,

I tried it with several search engines including Brave Search and I still get the trending now list as soon as I type something in the search bar. Have to admit I almost learned to tune it out then they added copilot with no way to turn that off. Suppose at some point I'll get pissed enough to use another browser.
