How do you disable "Trending now" in Edge search bar?

There have been a lot of questions on this. And there have been requests to the developers. It all falls on deaf ears.

The way to turn it off is to go to settings in Edge browser and go to search engine and select the Brave search engine for the Edge Browsers search bar to use. It does not come up as a default search engine. I had to use Brave first then I could find it in a list of search engines that have been used before and select it there to be my default search engine.

I don't think the problem here is so much the Edge Browser. Its the Bing search engine and the fact that microsoft developers on Bing don't give a hoot what you would like to see in Bing search. They are going to make you see what they want you to see.

Plenty of questions on this and most seem to refer to older versions of Windows and/or Edge.

Using Windows 11 and Edge Version 107.0.1418.42 (Official build) (64-bit), both up to date.

As soon as I attempt to type in the search bar, a "Trending now" drop-down appears.

I've got everything turned off that anyone has ever suggested but I can't get rid of it as shown below.

However, as a graphic designer, I was forced to work for a while in an Apple/MAC environment and I cannot tell you how much it sucked ... slow, senile layout and the stupid hopping icons at the bottom, all apps need to be on all the time since it takes forever to start one up from cold (Photoshop: PC=8 seconds - MAC 4-5 minutes) .. same goes for the whole unit ... you can never shut these MAC things totally down at the end of the day ... takes forever to start up from cold. Allways on = 2 years, and they are done. I had PCs that lasted 12 years without a flaw.

Anyways - I like Windows, it's way superior, faster, customizable, especially for professional / high performance use.

This forced Ai BS is only a nuisance lately and I would never switch to a MAC.

But feel free to switch Edge for something else or go to BlueMail .. another free, simple, ad-free mail platform, similar to the Mail app.

Thank you! It’s interesting that I recently had the opportunity to deal with Apple. I’ve had an Apple phone for a very long time. I purchased this because at the time it was easy for me to utilize my contacts in my computer without having an IT department. But, I never really became as proficient with Apple as with a PC. This was because the PC was utilized by nearly all businesses. I purchased an Apple Watch and had the opportunity to call them for support. Guess what? They really have a live person answer the phone! Subsequent to that I needed to have an answer about a problem with my iPhone, which has no real coverage on it, and I got the same type of very good support. Maybe it’s time to switch to an Apple computer. I’m really sick of dealing with Microsoft issues as you said. Thanks for your reply.

I completely agree with your post. Microsoft is forcing images, lists, AI search/chat which is not at all useful or doesn't provide accurate information, or decides it doesn't want to answer and shuts down because the question I pose isn't radical left-thinking. I'm so tired of cleaning up the things I don't want, need, or like that Microsoft constantly is pushing out via their insane updates. They usually cause issues no one from Microsoft knows how to fix, so I end up digging into the root cause and telling them what to do. Their "support" is so bad...There is no support.

Sorry, ranting, but I agree with you! Microsoft needs to stop all of this!
