Since that last update, my home page isn't showing up every time I start up Microsoft Edge.

And this is my settings for Edge:

Can you tell me why this happening?

Since that last update, my home page isn't showing up every time I start up Microsoft Edge.

This is a bug affecting a few users. The Edge team reported on 29 November::

This is a known issue and is fixed in 97.0.1057.0 but not quite moved up to Stable yet. Our Insiders who've had the same thing happening have reported it resolved, so you're welcome to give anInsider builda try if you'd like (Canary and Dev have the fix.) Or, I'll check back in with you after that build is in Stable and make sure the fix is working for you!

Alexandra doesn't make clear whether this fix is incorporated into one of the builds 1055-1057 or into the major update to Edge 97, but if it's the latter, the the expected Stable release date for Edge 97 is next month:

What happens if you change Edge Start Settings for When Edge Starts and Home Page to New tab page?

First turn off Sync in Profile Settings.

I've sent feedback, hopefully, it'll be picked up.

Just to show that the team take feedback seriously, one of them posted this not long ago:

Hello, I'm a developer on Edge. We've been monitoring this issue closely and struggling to reproduce it. Today I was able to see potentially how this could happen.

Could anyone who can reproduce this please close all instances of Edge (App menu -> Close Microsoft Edge to be sure) take a look at the preference file for the profile in (For Stable channel users, this is typically under %userprofile%\appdata\local\microsoft\edge\user data\default\preferences)

Open this file in notepad and search for 'exit_type'. If it says 'Crashed' this profile is caught in a crashed state cycle. This can be induced by a real browser crash or opening an InPrivate window (The InPrivate issue has been fixed in Canary)

Normally, if the browser crashes, this should prompt the user to acknowledge the crash on the next restart. It seems that in some states, the user is never prompted. This keeps the crash state in the profile and will always start with the New Tab Page.

To work around this, you can change that value to 'Normal' but the problem may come back until this bug has been fixed.

I replied to the effect that this doesn't apply to me. All my profiles show Crashed, but all of them honour the start-up setting. However, I do have Startup boost turned off for all of them. Have you tried that? ⋯ (Settings and more) > Settings > System and performance.
