How do I remove Microsoft Edge From Windows 10?

Maybe someone can explain the obsession with uninstalling Edge these days? I use IOS and Mac OS and both come with Safari browser and neither OS allows Safari to be uninstalled. I have frustrations with Windows 10 for sure, but getting rid of Edge is not one of them. 

Well…..  I have an obsession with trying to use the essential new computer that I struggled to afford; delivered in June but only usable on the first 3 days, thanks to this Windows update gatecrashing before I'd had time to prepare for any updates, let alone Windows ones.  (Apart, that is, from having set Windows updates to Manual before the laptop's first internet connection).

Nobody's to blame of course for being unfamiliar with problems that aren't being publicised (and tech journalists' articles for magazines etc take so long to reach the public).  And it's nice to know that many users like yourself were lucky with this update.  ('Lucky' because no pattern seems to have emerged yet for who gets a problem-free update and who gets a slowdown or worse).  I know now (thanks to user forums) that uninstalling Edge would probably only worsen my problem.  But it's only natural to consider doing what's always been the first thing to try for problems following any normal installation!

To certain other contributors here, I'd like to point out that most of us are bright enough to know that a browser default can be changed, and most of us even know how!  And from what I've read so far, most have tried it and nobody's found that it makes any difference whatever to damage from the update, whether done before it, after it or both.

It's not surprising that people are getting confused about what the problem is, (given its low profile).  For anyone curious about it, a read of the topic linked below should explain.  And if you can find any pattern to which systems it affects, you deserve a reward for services to humanity!

I had at least not had time to put any data into my laptop, so that's one less complication!  And I'm one of those whose computer will still function, even if it is only in Safe Mode.  But I'm still keeping the laptop offline as far as possible until I stumble on a solution (or Microsoft comes up with one….).

Sorry, but you permitted the installation of Edge when you agreed to the Terms & Conditions at the time of the install of Windows 10.  I don't recommend that anyone uninstall Edge for one good reason. Any method used to remove Edge makes changes to Windows 10 System and you never know when Microsoft might release an update that requires what was changed and your computer ends up a brick. If you still feel that you must remove Edge, I would suggest you try Revo uninstaller. It can be downloaded here: https://www.revouninstaller.com/revo-uninstaller-free-download/. Then you can download and install the tool to block any unwanted future updates. You can also check this out: 

Open Regedit and back up key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\EdgeUpdate\ClientState{56EB18F8-B008-4CBD-B6D2-8C97FE7E9062}

Then delete it, but, ONLY after backing up. This is the key that informs Windows the new awful browser update is engaged. You will need to restore it later.

Reboot.

Now, add the following key in RegEdit:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\EdgeUpdate]

"Allowsxs"=dword:00000001

This tells Windows to allow legacy edge as well as an awful edge.

Reboot.

So now you have the legacy edge link as well as the new one on your Start Screen all apps.

The last thing, now you should restore the backed-up key that I told you to keep at the beginning. MS recommends you don't remove this key, so best to restore it.

Everything is now fine again.

You gave you consent for Microsoft to make updates to the operating system that you are using, Windows. Internet Explorer and the old Edge are being replaced by the newer Edge and Microsoft is updating it just like it might update the Calculator app.

If you don't want to use Edge then simply install the browser of your choice and make it the default. Problem solved!

I am asking the very same question. My lap top recently updated bringing edge with it! I was pleased at first to see a shiny new icon. My joy was short lived as the edge was blocked by my anti virus software. I have had to unpin edge from my task bar and from my desk top and find explorer. Oh no! Now explorer is not compatible with certain websites and yet all was ok before edge sneaked in!

I am now going to have to take copious amounts of time looking for solutions. Cross!
