How do I remove Microsoft Edge From Windows 10?

I've poked around and all threads on this question seem to have been locked. I'm not sure why we're forced to have edge installed if we don't want it. Can someone please provide exact instructions on how to remove Edge?

Hey there, everyone

Microsoft Edge cannot be uninstalled from Windows. This is because the browser is built into Windows - but gets updates separately from the Windows Update client. 

No matter which command you decide to run in PowerShell, this will not work. You can, of course, use an alternative browser. To do this, please download and install a browser of your choice though the Microsoft Store, or though the web browser. 

Once you launch the other web browser, such as Chrome, it will ask you if you want to make that browser a default browser. Once you select this, everything should open in Chrome, and not Edge. 

For those who are saying that Microsoft is forcing you to use Edge. You can use a different browser instead of Edge. Just like, if you were using an iPhone, you can install another browser instead of the built-in browser called Safari. Android systems have a built-in browser too, which cannot be uninstalled, but you are able to use a different browser too. 

Is this something new? No, browsers have always been built into the OS. Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, 10 have Internet Explorer which is built into the OS. Windows 8, 8.1, 10 also have Edge built in too.

    More info about "Microsoft Edge".

    Microsoft  decides to replace the old Edge browser with the Chromium-based version and make it the default for Windows 10.

    Windows 10 version 20H2

    The Chromium-based version of the Edge browser has been available since April 2019, but it remains an optional version users can choose to install. Later in 2020 that's set to change and Microsoft will include the Chromium version by default in a Windows Update.

    Microsoft has just started talking about the next feature update for Windows 10, an update that will appear as Windows 10 version 20H2 later in 2020. 

     Windows Insider Program, confirmed that 20H2 will "include the new Microsoft Edge based on Chromium."

    What this means for end users, if you haven't manually upgraded to Chromium Edge, the 20H2 update will replace the old Edge with the Chromium version for you.

    Switching to Chromium, Microsoft is taking advantage of the speed and compatibility of Chrome while offering strong privacy and some helpful extras. There's also a number of tips and tricks you can use to make it even better. With the old version disappearing completely before the end of 2020, Microsoft will focus on the new Edge.

    Thanks for the firewall idea - I must try that!  And if I find that Windows overrides my security program's one, pethaps my router's one will work.

    You are welcome. Glad that I could help at least a bit. Windows will probably try to override your firewall so router's is probably a good idea. Mine still works, but i believe it is matter of time. Currently I need five block rules in order to prevent apps abusing it for connecting to internet. But that's only part of solution, because, ads for it is still all over the place.

    Writing "Problem solved." doesn't mean that it is, it only discredit you. Windows never offered its calculator when i installed other, nor poped up question if i want to use it instead. That comparison is silly, and only show lack of understanding of the subject. Windows map doesn't annoy you if you us Google or Yandex maps, Outlook doesn't annoy if you use Thunderbird or eM, Skype doesn't annoy you if you use Vieber or WhatsApp. There is no reason for Edge to do that. Edge is not the only one that does that, but it is more annoying than others. And it is the only one with security issue (at least for me). If some other app tries to use snipping tool or paint, not much I can do to stop it, but it would make no sense. App trying to connect the internet is another matter, and since I cannot uninstall the program that I don't trust, only option is to block it via firewall.

    Edge is her to stay, just like the Calculator app or any of the many other apps that are part of Windows. Windows has to have at least one browser that the user can't uninstall. 

    So, just install a browser of your choice and make it the default. Problem solved. People all over the world do that and get on with their day. You should try it, it would be less stressful for you.
