My wife's computer had the same problem. I fixed it by clicking on the 3 dots on the "pop-up" and options came up to turn off all notifications in Microsoft Edge, when I did that the "pop-up's" stopped.

1st thing is to completely remove McAfee if it is in the system/machine. See below*.
Are you using Windows Defender or do you, actually have McAfee installed? You should be using Windows Defender so, either way follow the following recommendations:
That will give you the following window. Check, Turn on pop-up blocker & hit OK
And/OR
This appears to be a push notification.
To disable the notifications:

Similar thing happened on my wife's computer. One point I will add to the above: website popup notifications are often made to look like legitimate Windows notifications and hence it is hard to tell if it is real one or not. For Edge pop-up notifications, EACH of them contained the name of the website under the notification which helped me identify them as such. All "scary" notifications contained the same website name.
When you get into this state or you are reading this because you "googled it", the key is not to interact with the notification (do not click on "remove virus" or whatever it might say and understand where it might be coming from). Then going into the Edge settings and seeing that you may have a recent website added with "allow notifications" on it.
If you get notifications just after restarting the computer with no browsers running or anything else explicitly started, you may have some of the bloatware installed (often comes with the new computer itself) and these might be legit notifications. I would recommend going to Task Manager --> Startup tab and checking what services you have enabled. You may find there some notification programs that bring reminders to install additional software. Disabling them will stop notifications.
this a screen shot of what i am getting. it also comes up with mcafee offer and says my subscription has run out. i do not have a subscription-i get mcadfee from my internet provider. i do not have any noartaon prodyuct.
