Hi
I've upgraded to chromium edge but now videos are autoplaying again. I had this disabled on classic Edge but can't work out how to do this on the new version.
I've set "Media autoplay" to "Limit" in the "Site Permissions" section of settings but this doesn't seem to have had any effect at all (yes, I've restarted Edge / Windows).
I had also had this problem with dev / beta builds of Edge but hadn't got around to chasing it up until it became my primary browser.
In particular it's annoying on the MSN new pages linked to from the new tab page in Edge when they all have autoplaying video.

Why isn't there an option called "Block"?
You'll probably find that the block option has to be enabled. Copy the next line into the address bar and press Enter:
edge://flags/#edge-autoplay-user-setting-block-option
Once this flag is enabled, you should see Block on the autoplay options menu.

In the new Microsoft Edge, the option of automatic playback is limited.
However, you can install an extension like autoplayblocker from the Chrome web store to disable Autoplay. (You may have to enable extensions from other store).

I looked around for a page at the BBC site with video that might autoplay when I visit it. This one should, I think: BBC iPlayer - Watch BBC News live. If I have autoplay set to Allow, it does. If I have autoplay set to Block, it doesn't.
Again I'll ask - can you give the URL of a page where a video autoplays in Edge even though autoplay is set to Block?
Have you used the Edge browser recently? The Block setting in Edge does not work.
I use Firefox when I know I will be viewing pages that have autoplay videos, for example CNN or BBC. Firefox always blocks playing of these videos when I switch on the setting. However each video is available to watch if I click within the red border that Firefox places around each video. It's the only browser I have tried where the setting actually works. Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge are likely to continue letting autoplay remain switched off so that their ads continue to play and earn them an income from their browsers. It's the price we pay for free apps like browsers.
I have tried other browsers such as Opera and Vivaldi which are also based on the Chromium engine used by Google Chrome and MS Edge. In my opinion, they work as well as the other browsers and can load apps from the Google Chrome Store. But they they are not able to block autoplay videos. Ultimately it comes down to personal preferences when we choose a browser.
So my solution has been to use one browser for everyday use - currently I use MS Edge most of the time - and Firefox when I know I would otherwise be pestered by autoplay videos. I am not using Firefox for everyday use any longer because I suspect that it might be slowing down my PC. I can search using Google when I use Edge by bringing up the Google website. But I am finding that Bing, which is native to Edge, is providing satisfactory search results.
