How to prevent Microsoft Start page from coming up when I click on a news article in the New Tab page?

Starting today (1/4/2022), whenever I click on a news article in the New Tab page, the Microsoft Start page is displayed instead. How do I stop that from happening?

2022-01-04T16:25:01+00:00 Someone else described this as irritating. I would say that irritation is a mild description - this is infuriating. Who at Microsoft thought it would be a good idea that when a user clicks a newsfeed link, they get redirected to a completely unrelated page and need to search further for the new article they wanted to read in the first place? Taking a page from poor customer service, "instead of giving them what they want, let's give them what WE want"!

2022-01-04T16:14:52+00:00 I'm in the same boat. Glad that I'm not the only one having this issue. Also noticed that my icons for quick links to sites has been replaced with totally new set.
