How to prevent Microsoft Start page from coming up when I click on a news article in the New Tab page?

Starting today (1/4/2022), whenever I click on a news article in the New Tab page, the Microsoft Start page is displayed instead. How do I stop that from happening?

    I came here to post this: the ads are working flawlessly, just none of the content. It's basically a loveless marriage.

    Somebody is doing something. Some of the links work, but most still go to microsoft.

    Sure would be nice to hear from someone at Microsoft that they're aware of these thousands of complaints and are working to fix it.
