How do you stop edge from opening a new tab every time you click a link???

I have done the above and saved the settings and my browser is STILL opening a new tab whenever I click on a link. Whilst your instructions are clear and easy to follow, they have not solved the problem I still seemed to have. I have RESET my ENTIRE browser and restarted my laptop, and the problem still persists.

I think there needs to be a deeper conversation here. There are DOZENS of videos out there using the same advice and NONE of them have solved my issue. Either I am doing something wrong or I am stupid or the advice is missing a step.

Please advise on what I could possible do further, short of deactivating Edge and using Chrome.

Search for a general subject, like "fish".

When you have accessed the page from a Bing search, you will see the Bing search bar at top of the site you accessed. Below it is a horizontal list of options including IMAGES VIDEOS MAPS NEWS SHOPPING MORE and TOOLS.

Click on the TOOLS link and you'll see "Open links in a new tab". Click the toggle switch to TURN IT OFF!

I did as you suggested. And what do you know? The toggle was already off! Amazing! I even went into Safe Search and the 'open links in new tab' is off there too. Oh, I forgot to mention. I do not use Bing to search. I just use Edge and Norton Safe Search usually. And before you say 'deactivate your extensions'... been there done that as well. I reset Edge which deactivated all my extensions, and the problem still persists. It makes no difference which setting I toggle off; I still have the same issue.

I have been through EVERY setting in Edge and on Bing and toggled everything to off and well... nothing has changed. I have viewed every video and read almost every thread about this on almost every help site. I am beginning to think I am a complete idiot at this point because seemingly I am unable to follow simple instructions.

Yep, it was just Edge messing with me. I went through ALL the settings... where there were the three parallel lines, three dots, or the gear. I eventually found the one that was causing all the bother. And it was not where all the videos, sub-Reddits, and posts said it was. Yes, was it a toggle to off from 'open tab on new page'? Why, yes it was. Can I remember exactly where? Nope.

Thank you for your help all the same. It was useful in eliminating all the issues.
