How do you stop edge from opening a new tab every time you click a link???

Microsoft made disabling this feature such a chore, and navigating settings didn't help one bit. I figured I'd ask on the forums before ditching edge all together.

    This happens almost every time I clink on a link , it opens two new identical tabs on an unrelated website that I must close. It does open the correct link also.

    I would like to obtain additional information about this. On which websites are you observing links that open in a new tab when clicked?

    Every SINGLE webpage on the entire world wide web or any sort of inter or intra net. It is the most absolutely annoying setup ever. I could lisrt a dozen plus reasons but the tops ones are simply "Surfing the web" as it was called for my generation ends up resulting in having 100+ tabs open in no time at all. Which then of course leads to the next pretty critical issue - computer resources. Before you know it Edge is consuming GIGS AND GIDS of memory and cpu resources. For anyone using a computer even jsut a few years old this can quickly result in crashes of all kinks. Capiche?

    Finally found a thread with the exact problem. I am having trouble with the frequently used websites that are listed in "New Tab" page. The solutions mentioned in this thread has worked for me. I have 2 local profiles. Both have Version 123.0.2420.65 (Official build) (64-bit).

    One of the profile does not have this problem. The differences between 2 profiles:

    1. I am not signed in to One Drive in the good profile
    2. In Edge, the good one is using my google profile (@gmail.com), the bad one is using my Microsoft profile (@hotmail.com)

    I am digging further but this is so far what I observed.
