How to Extend IE mode more than 30 days

1. Add one or more pages to the IE Mode section in Edge.
2. Close Edge.
3. Run the script.
4. Open Edge and check the IE Mode pages. They should all have a 2099 date.

I'm not really concerned about that. Typical users are just going to run the script as is to set the expiry of their existing IE Mode URLs. System administrators and technical users may edit the script. If they mess up using FindReplace there's now a backup they can go to. I've also improved the wording and warnings in the FindReplace comments.

When you manually enter a URL in Edge, it only accepts the string up to the question mark, so I'm doing the same. I don't really see anything else that needs to be done in that regard.

Yes, I guess it's up to the admin editing the script to make sure that they don't just copy and paste from their bookmarks, but take the time to open each link first the copy the URL from the address bar instead.

In my tests, using Edge version 110.0.1587.50, home and startup pages are stored in the separate "Secure Preferences" file, so there is no interference with IE Mode pages stored in "Preferences". Apparently it's different on your computer. Puzzling.

I just tried this on a new device (just fresh from a reset), and I can confirm your findings. They ended up in "Secure Preferences".

The only difference is that my original device "inherited" those 2 settings from IE, in an earlier version of Edge, so maybe that's the reason they show up in "Preferences" rather than "Secure Preferences"? One other difference is that I used to be "Signed-In" on this Edge, but I signed out to use this script.

The settings do show up in "Secure Preferences", but only the hashed version of them. On your device and my new test device, what shows up in "Secure Preferences" is both the plaintext and the hashed version.

Weird ...

Even when I change them to another value, a value that is not inherited from IE settings, like youtube or any other URL, they get written to the "Preferences" in plaintext, while the hash ends up in "Secure Preferences".

Anyway, maybe test for them nonetheless, just in case this happens with other users?

That's working as designed. It works with a copy of the Preferences file in memory, so if the end result is that Data=OrignalData then the Preferences file is not touched and no backup is created.

I noticed a weird behaviour with this though. If I run the same script twice, but open Edge in-between the two runs, it says "Profile Updated", and creates a backup file, although nothing is changed.

After comparing the "Preferences" to the backup, I found that Edge apparently sorts them alphabetically when exiting. So, each run by the script, when comparing the Original Data to the Data, will find them different.

It's non-issue anyway. Just a "you get a new backup file each time you run it" kind of a situation.

Again, I can't thank you enough. I don't get this deeply involved with testing except when I like the code, and I do like this one.

After reading your message again, I realized there is nothing that needs to be fixed.

The Setlocale("en-us") should not be changed for any region. That setting is internal to the script itself and is needed so that the script knows the date in the line below of "10/28/2099" is in month/day/year format.

If you changed that date to "28/10/2099" then you would need to change the locale to something like "en-uk", but I haven't tested that, so I recommend leaving the date in "en-us" format, since it doesn't affect the date format in Edge in any way.
