Which of the two options is it that causes your script to fail: Sign in or Sign in | Sync?

Both.

To be clear, if the user is signed into Edge, my script still successfully edits the profile, but upon starting Edge, the changes are removed. I assumed Edge was replacing the profile from a copy stored on its servers.

I spent a lot of time comparing profiles when the user is signed in versus not signed in to see if I could find a way to make the changes stick when they're signed in, but I found no solution. I was looking for some flag or indicator to set in the profile so Edge would accept the changed profile as the newest/correct version to keep. If you have some insight that will help, I'd be happy to give it another shot.

This is a bit misleading, Les.

• All Edge profiles are 'local,' in that they consist solely of a directory within the Windows user's directory.
• It is possible to associate a profile with a particular Microsoft Account or 'work or school' account. Being signed in in the browser makes it simpler to sign in to Microsoft sites and other properties using the Microsoft account for authentication.
• Signing in also makes it possible to synchronize selected sets of the profile's user data - e.g. favourites - with Edge profiles on other devices, by storing them in the Microsoft Account.

So, the profile itself is always local, but some of its data may be stored in the Microsoft Account for sharing with other devices. Signing in is not enough to cause this to happen, though; Sync is an option which has to be enabled by the user after signing in.

I tried it on a customer computer and I received a message that the user is logged in to Edge , and it did not work.

Any suggestions?

The script only works with local Edge profiles. If the customer can live without synced Edge profiles (i.e they don't have a second computer or use Edge on a phone) then they can sign out of Edge and the script will work. If they need synced profiles then I'm sorry, my script won't help.
