New Edge: "Your browser is managed by your organization"

I just (06-08-2020) installed the latest Windows release and updated to the new Edge as well. When I went to change settings in the Edge browser, I noticed that my browser is all of a sudden managed by "your organization". Well, my organization is me!

Can anyone explain why I see the message "Your browser is managed by your organization" when trying to adjust settings? I did not give any permission for anyone to "manage my organization." I had this problem with Google Chrome and wound up deleting the browser altogether.

Thanks in advance

I was able to remove this by opening my Webroot SecureAnywhere Advanced Settings. Like others have said, this is something that blocks websites Webroot has identified as malicious but the steps below should remove the things in Edge you're seeing.

  1. Open the Webroot security program.
  2. Click the Advanced Settings Cog at the top right.
  3. Click Firewall / Web Shield at the left hand side.
  4. Uncheck "Activate Browser Extensions"
  5. Save
  6. Close and reopen Edge and the Extension is gone and so are those policies/management messages.

Here's a screenshot of the setting unchecked. I hope this helps!

For future debates on labelling, please consider that wrong is worse than unclear or non-specific, and wrong in the sense of inappropriate, reprehensible, etc.

Saying "managed by your organisation" when this is not necessarily true is a terrible choice. I am home working - like many now - and remote IT sometimes leads to choices that might indeed lead to remote management. These I try desperately to avoid because this is my personal IT system.

When you give wrong information that is not impossible, it is assumed to be true. Your inappropriate message has wasted a considerable amount of my time trying to work out why, how, how to undo etc. only to find it is probably not true at all that my edge is managed by anyone else.

Consider when labelling, what criteria are you using to make a determination. If e.g. a policy has been set and it *could* be set by an organisation or the user refer to the criteria, not assumptions or possibilities concerning how those criteria came to be met, e.g. just say "a [presumably non-default] policy has been set". If the result of that approach is equally in appropriate, the wrong question is being asked/answered; start again.

Accurate info + link to explain/provide more info/clarify etc. as necessary is always the way to go.

I have this very same problem, it started on google chrome about 6 months ago and I deleted that and went over to microsoft edge, about 2 months ago. It's been working ok till I noticed tonight (22/09/2020) that the very same message has re-appeared. I also am on a home computer, not attached to work or any other organisation and it's blocking java scripts. I don't have webroot installed on my computer (to my knowledge, not something I have put on anyhow) and am not savvy enough to go through all the technical jargon relating to editing registry and whatnot. Please help an old lady with this in simple terms? Thanks in advance.

    GOOGLE CHROME:

    Press (WinKey) + R > tape: regedit > ENTER

    Remove:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Google\Chrome\ExtensionInstallForcelist

    and

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Policies\Google\Chrome\Extensions\ckjefchnfjhjfedoccjbhjpbncimppeg

    RESTART!

    That’s it!

    Thank you :)

    > if we had a "click here to learn more" or some such link with the managed message at the top of the edge:// pages too, which lead you to edge://management and edge://policy pages - would that make you feel better about this situation?

'would that make you feel better' is an understatement.  Such a help-link is essential.

Why would I need to search the Internet to find such intricacies?
