New Edge: "Your browser is managed by your organization"

I just (06-08-2020) installed the latest Windows release and updated to the new Edge as well. When I went to change settings in the Edge browser, I noticed that my browser is all of a sudden managed by "your organization". Well, my organization is me!

Can anyone explain why I see the message "Your browser is managed by your organization" when trying to adjust settings? I did not give any permission for anyone to "manage my organization." I had this problem with Google Chrome and wound up deleting the browser altogether.

I was able to remove this by opening my Webroot SecureAnywhere Advanced Settings. Like others have said, this is something that blocks websites Webroot has identified as malicious but the steps below should remove the things in Edge you're seeing.

  1. Open the Webroot security program.
  2. Click the Advanced Settings Cog at the top right.
  3. Click Firewall / Web Shield at the left hand side.
  4. Uncheck "Activate Browser Extensions"
  5. Save
  6. Close and reopen Edge and the Extension is gone and so are those policies/management messages.

    My solution below gets rid of that ExtensionInstallForcelist in the registry editor.  Problem, at least for me, is it comes back a day or 2 later and have to re-do it.  The only thing I found that fixes it PERMANENTLY is to COMPLETELY get rid of Webroot.  That's why I now use McAfee.

    ^That in the screenshot is why you CAN'T uninstall the Web Threat Shield extension.  It's also why the extension reinstalls itself, without permission, in a day or 2.  I speak from experience.

    1...Open registry editor

    2....Go to this address in the registry editor:

    Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Policies\Microsoft\Edge\ExtensionInstallForcelist

    3...Delete ExtensionInstallForcelist

    4...Close the registry editor.

    5...Close the browser for a minute.  This will uninstall the Webroot Web Threat Shield extension. .

    Problem solved.  It worked for me, anyway.  I hope it works for all of you.

    Whatever you do, DON'T reinstall the Webroot Web Threat Shield extension or you'll have to do all this again.  I know because I tried reinstalling it to see what would happen.

    I've discovered that the extension will come back after a day or 2 even if you don't reinstall it.

    Sorry that the browser is surprising you with that message @jameswolfe3! Lets try figuring out the core issue here.

    Could you please navigate to edge://policy page in a new tab? Does that show any entries? Also does edge://management page show anything other than the standard text about the browser being managed by an organization?

    Also, could you please share screenshots of these pages?

    Here's how I would get rid of that "Your browser is managed by your organization" for a day or 2 at a time before I dumped Webroot for McAfee.

    I have a solution that worked for me.  Here it is step by step.

    1...Open registry editor

    2....Go to this address in the registry editor:

    Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Policies\Microsoft\Edge\ExtensionInstallForcelist

    3...Delete ExtensionInstallForcelist

    4...Close the registry editor.

    5...Close the browser for a minute.  This will uninstall the Webroot Web Threat Shield extension. .
