How do I change the language in "New Tab" from Chinese to English?

I find it a bit cheeky of Microsoft to arrogantly think they can just reset our new tab settings and forget our customizations every time i open Edge, and an invasion of Privacy, ...

The New Tab Page (NTP) is just a web page, albeit a rather special one. When you change the preferences for the NTP, your choices are saved in a cookie. Then the next time you open a new tab, the page reads the cookie to find out which locale (language/region) setting to use to display the NTP and its content. If you consider cookies an invasion of privacy and delete them all when you close the browser, the next time you launch Edge, the NTP will of course revert to its default settings, which will usually be the local ones.

everything you've said about the absurdity of overriding the customer's language preference based on his region is right on the money

however, changing the country as you indicated does not work for me. nor does changing it twice nor thrice nor again and again

and even if it did, that's not a solution if language resets to the region every time you restart the browser

it a MS problem. to be fair, chrome does the same kinds of things and 'no country redirect' solutions sometimes work and sometimes dont, and when they do work it's often temporary

Windows and Edge have a number of language/region settings that interact in some circumstances. For example, the Input language is a Windows setting governing the language used when typing. It may use its default keyboard layout, but some users will prefer to use a different one.

Edge has a list of preferred languages, which governs the language used by web pages where alternative language versions are available. Users in bilingual countries (e.g. Canada or Belgium) will be used to seeing pages in their first language thanks to this feature.

Edge also has the concept of locale, which is a combination of region and language. This comes into play when deciding which language to use for the Edge user interface. A Québécois will most probably choose fr-ca, while a Latino in San Francisco might well choose es-us.

There is sadly a limitation in the New Tab Page: it supports only a limited number of locales, so it's not unlikely that a user's specific choice of language and regional content just isn't among the 62 options available. In some cases, one of the International editions may help, but in others, users will have to choose between seeing the content they'd prefer to see in a language they don't understand, or whatever content is available in a language they do understand.

You didn't mention your own preferred language. Are you not able to find content of interest on the NTP in that language? If not, is there no other local source of news you could use? Or is there some other reason for your complaint?
