Gee, maybe somebody heard me telling them (various times, ways, places & people) that it was not X 😂
And here is (all 🙄) the info about it (.53)...
Version 88.0.705.53: January 26Fixed various bugs and performance issues.
"It now states CTRL-Shift-S for web capture."
Where is "It"? (Depends where one looks or reads). IF you are meaning in the ellipsis, it was always S there. But, has (& does) say/show X in "We've updated you..." for someversions or in some blogs & articles. The info from Edge Beta .49 has S. The same blogs for Dev & Canary have X.
This is 'interesting', too... somewhere in one of the "We've updated you..." blogs, talks about Talk to Type (in Edge) as if it's something exclusive & NEW. A bit bizarre... Win+H has been an ability in the OS for a long time; can be used to write anywhere, Edge or Notepad or Word or _____; it's not peculiar to Edge nor is it "New".
Cheers,
Drew
I See 🤔, Thank-You Drew for the clarification. I'm seeing it under the ( ... ) ellipsis when I open it. And to tell you the truth, the only reason I noticed it this time is because you mentioned it 😃. I Know, I'm bad, and I should be a little bit more observant on these matters. 😊
Cheers..
Yes, there or elsewhere within Edge itself, always, has been Ctrl+Shift+S (shown). It's in 'write-ups', be they directly from MS or relayed info, where it is being 'advertised' (words & picture) as Ctrl+Shift+S.
I felt it would be confusing/misleading for people, since Ctrl+Shift+X does nothing, at all. As in, "Hey, this doesn't work." when it is not even the right strokes, in the 1st place.
And, if one hits icons (buttons) might never know or notice their K/B shortcuts. Some Folks think about the K/B shortcuts for things, some don't... for some it's a loose combo of key & clicks. Good ole Windows, often more than 1 way of doing something.
I do wish I would see a response to pointing out (to them) that Ctrl+Shift+x is wrong, does nothing and it is, correctly, actually, Ctrl+Shift+S
These are two different functions, but you'll have to do a bit of experimentation to spot the differences.
Ctrl-Shift-S takes a snapshot of the (part of the) viewport that you select. It won't extend into the page chrome, like Winkey-Shift-S will.
Ctrl-Shift-X invokes *Smart copy,*which does more or less the same, but with the intention of capturing essential formatting and transferring it to the target. You may find that the results vary with both the page you're copying from and what you're copying to.
Trying out Smart copy in Canary, I'm so far underwhelmed, but I expect it to improve with age. Not everyone has the function yet, it seems.
