Build 23493 is out to Dev Channel Insiders

Did you file an FBH report for this problem?

I got the same issue on one of my Dev Builds 23493.1000 right after a reboot, but after I hit refresh the icons repopulate correctly.

I followed the suggestion and deleted the C:\Users*Username*AppData\Local\IconCache.db and the problem is now fixed.

I could reproduce the problem once when I used Copilot. When it opens the copilot sidebar it rearranges all the icons on the desktop and it seems to corrupt the IconCache.db. 🤷‍♂️

Perhaps it is a requisite for Copilot?

I see the same Version 115.0.1901.157 on my Dev channel.

The standard version is 114.0.1823.67, but according to the blog 115.0.1901.150 or higher is needed. 🤷‍♂️

Back in May at the Build conference, we introduced Windows Copilot for Windows 11. In today’s flight we are offering an early look of Windows Copilot to Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel via a controlled feature rollout. This first preview focuses on our integrated UI experience, with additional functionality coming down the road in future previews. To use Copilot in this flight you must have Windows Build 23493 or higher in the Dev Channel, and Microsoft Edge version 115.0.1901.150 or higher.
