Remove "Start back up" option in file explorer

Hello,

In the latest release of Windows Insider Home Preview (I have an option everywhere I go in file explorer to "Start Back Up", clicking on it leads me to the onedrive dialogue to back up folders. This is incredibly annoying and I cannot find out how to disable it, even though all my backup features are off.

How can I disable this?

I was able to get rid of the button like this:

  1. Open RegEdit
  2. Go to HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StorageProvider\OneDrive
  3. Remove or rename the key StorageProviderKnownFolderSyncInfoSourceFactory
  4. Restart Windows Explorer

    Honestly, the best option at this time is to get a third party File Explorer App (such as the Files App in the Microsoft Store, which recently got a whole host of nice improvements). Filing a report in the Feedback Hub is generally useless. If the press starts making noise about something it will sometimes convince MS to make a change, so that might be worth pursuing. But one of the most effective ways to get change is to simply stop using the feature until it is fixed. For many of us, uninstalling OneDrive isn't a viable option. However one can use an alternative to File Explorer.

    I tried it, liked it, and decided to replace file explorer with it. Made the backup of the registry prior to running the provided link to change out file explorer.

    The change out worked. No problem there. Unfortunately, since I always double check an install, I found out the registry import was not successful. So now it appears I am stuck with Files whether I like it or not.

    So not a choice I am going to recommend even though I am stuck with it for now.

    This is very annoying and I can't believe there's no way to remove it!

    I was hoping someone might have found a registry hack for this, but can't find one anywhere. What the heck?!

    Even if there is a registry hack, that's very unfriendly to most of the world.

    This is, pure and simple, a marketing thing.
